You absolutely sure about that DT? This winter a Starling's been singing its head off on our street and its birdsong mimicking is amazing; Mistle Thrush, Dunnock, Curlew, Lapwing, Common Gull, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Swallow, all in beautiful stereo!
I guess it's mild enough for birds to think that Spring's not far off.

We were out early (5-30ish) and it sounded right to me. Lovely 'plummy' tones. I've heard starling mimicks before. It was 11 degrees that morning

Re: Today's Wildlife Encounter

Attachment 6662Saw a Stoat yesterday over Langsett way, and had a Sparrowhawk sit on our fence for about 20 mins this morning. Just, y'know, passing the time of day.

Re: Today's Wildlife Encounter
Bullfinch, in the dusky light tricky to make out, but could just see the rose red chest and white rump as it flow onto the bush!

Re: Today's Wildlife Encounter
About a dozen or so Lapwings on Bull Hill over the last couple of weeks, been ages since I've seen so many together.

I'm sure the answer to this question has been revealed a couple of times on this thread already. But I can't be arsed to look.

Re: Today's Wildlife Encounter
Snow covering has shown me the fox tracks through the garden and wood, I now know where it comes in, pokes about and goes out again under the fence. Interesting.
While following the fox tracks I put up a woodcock in my wood by the little pool - how good is that .

Re: Today's Wildlife Encounter
dead robin in the field: looks like it had been got by the local sparrowhawk.....

Re: Today's Wildlife Encounter
Saw a fox in aldborough hatch this morning whilst walking the dog. This evening heading off to one if the worst pubs it's been my misfortune to visit, saw a couple of foxes. Must have been the same as they don't travel.:)
Fairlop waters _ stacked with geese, ducks, grebes, crested grebes and many more. Nice within the m25.
The campsite has a host of pea fowl including albino.

That reminds me, a hare spotted on today's run (standard brown number, not white mountain type)

Re: Today's Wildlife Encounter
Lunchtime run along the canal at Thwaite mills in Hunslet the other day revealed a surprising amount of wildlife. Probably the cold had kept people away so out came the wildlife. I saw (in no particular order) a stoat/weasel, a curlew, a fox, a cormorant, numerous blue tits and robins, and what looked to be a pair of bright yellow siskins. All a nice distraction in an otherwise not so great part of the city

Re: Today's Wildlife Encounter
Only by the power of You Tube but this is an amazing clip worth a view, Gorilla family walk through a camp and interact with a tourist. I'm not sure I would be this calm but its good.
