I am aiming to do a long 26 on Saturday... but no idea, as not done a TT for almost a year now and I am not that fast. We shall see...

15 mins warmup, 3 x 10 mins at TT effort, HR at 175, 5 mins recovery @ 145... 15 mins cooldown.
Legs have filed for a divorce now and my heart has left me...
Actually Tuesday's not todays, but I didn't have internet access in Mallorca.
86 miles and probably quite a lot of ascent. Pollenca - Campanet - Orient (including the col) - Soller - Col de Soller - Lluc - Pollenca
I was going OK until about 60 miles when my legs stopped working. This was half way up a hill that was about 15 miles long!
Luckily the last 15 miles of the route was largely downhill. Perhaps I shouldn't leave it 6 months until my next long bike ride next time. One of my mates beat me up that long hill by half an hour - and stayed in his big ring all the way up it.
I'll have to do Sa Colobra some time Hanneke. We had it pencilled in as an option, but my legs weren't playing by then.
Noel, you were there at the same time as me??? I came back Tuesday... We could have ridden together :( Sa Calobra was defo my favourite ride, g there next time!
Yours is a decent ride with a fair bit of climbing :) I did that ride too at some stage last week... I like the Orient, but actually loved the Puig Major (or big Soller as they called it) best, especially the descent, so had to do that a couple of times... Then Sa Calobra and the Selva climb again took precedence over the Orient for a 2nd time...
Could have done with another couple of days there LOL!
I only did one day's biking, which was on Tuesday to allow me to go out with some mates who only flew out for this week. I'm still very much a part-time cyclist - I'd have to get some more miles in before I'd contemplate riding with proper cyclists like yourself. :)
It's a shame there's not a "today's sand castles" thread - I did a lot more of that.
And a very big days biking to boot, with a lot of climbing! respect if you are only an occasional cyclist!
I did not build a single sandcastle :( Not in the right mindframe for that after the break up with the bf :( But at least it did not deter me from getting some good riding in though! Nothing like a hard bike ride to take ones mind off things...
Or a nice fell run for that matter! Regretted not taking any running gear... Should have done! Those mountains looked pretty good for running in!
It was probably a bit ambitious in hindsight.
I'm sure my mates wasn't saying "respect" when my legs stopped working :o
Still, they were very supportive.
We managed to run up Massanella one day (the highest accessible peak). It was fun to run up but too hard and rocky to run down quickly without hurting my knees. We are really blessed in this country with spongey, grassy descents. I can see now why many continental races only go to the summit.
cheers
not sure where i finished up but there were loads there. for a club 10 it was well supported but it was the first of the season. undulating course too. hope to go faster on the Levens course. cant get used to these tri bars though. wobbling all over the place. when the new go faster skin suit arrives it should knock another minute off.
Well, the first time on saddle since February and my disaster ridden weeks in hospital..........don't get too excited now......10 mins on the static bike in the gym at about 40 rpm. Completely pathetic and guess what, the machine turned itself off as it was unconvinced that anybody was actually doing anything on it! :(:o Now where have I heard that one before:rolleyes:
Patheticness Redux!:D
Don't get saddle-sore now.
Without looking through all 218 pages, I guess some 'forumites' bikes have been featured?
So, here's part of my 'menagerie'
1. My old Raleigh 531 commuter. I turned the frame into this abstract shape (Feb 1997) upon hitting an abandoned car, after being dazzled by opposing traffic, & subsequently finding myself partially on the back-seat (via the rear-window)
2. Raleigh Optima (Reynolds 853 tubing, bought to replace the 531)
3. 'Yellow Peril'. Another old commuter/training bike, now deposed by the Dyna-Tech
I look quite chunky there, as it was not long after a return to riding after a (4 or 5 year) layoff:eek:
4. Dyna-Tech 755Ti. Bought new in 1994, & my 'best-bike' until the Ridley arrived in November 2008
5. Ridley Orion. I do like the funky tube profiles, as they're differant ('Clover Leaf' shaped top-tube anyone?)
It's on differant tyres (Continental Grand-Prix's) now, so that pic must have been just after I got it
Not necessarily a good idea.
Taken from Triathlete Europe;
"This is not to suggest that your back position is not important to aerodynamics. However, what matters is not how low it is but how you hold it. You want to strive for a slight curve in your mid-spine, almost like a hump. This will help integrate your aero helmet into your streamlined position. Specifically, it will help smooth airflow over your aero helmet, integrating your aero tuck into a neat little package and lowering your drag numbers another 50 to 100 grams.
There is a principle in aerodynamics that states that air likes to flow over curved surfaces as opposed to flat ones. Consider the toroidal bulges of aero wheels versus flat sidewall wheels. If you have a naturally flat back, work on curving your back into a hump, and if you have a humpback, rejoice, because it will help you ride faster"
However, she should have her lid on  .
My new Sella Italia Time saddle with carbon rails turned up today, it weighs very little and paired with the carbon Record seat post shouldn't top much more than 2o0 grammes.
Is anyone riding out to the Circuit of the Dales on Sunday? A certain Mark Holton may well be getting a new CR if the day is right. He came within 20 seconds of Bradley Wiggins L101 record last weekend and is going like a train.
Ha, I picked up a "sperm hat" of eBay with the intention of using it in France. I wore it for the first time at the weekend for a fast 50 miler. It fitted really well, but despite it being about 6 degrees C sweat was dripping of my nose within 5 miles. I reckon I'll need a better ventilated helmet. I don't think I can get an Atmos past the wife, but I'm hoping to get a Uvex FP1 for my birthday :) .
All this bling talk, don't forget you're fellrunners at heart :D .
And before you ask, I am single, so I can buy what the hell I want without having to justify it :D
My new helemt has arrived... It fits :) It will be tested on my ride later on today... will feed back if it dents my forehead and causes a headache like the old one... If so, it will be an expensive desaster
Neh nerh neh neh neh :p
Right, so the verdict on the helmet: it makes my head sweatty, it irritates me to see the edge of it when on the drops and it makes dents in my forehead... NOT happy, so shan't be wearing it, like the other one, other than for races... GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR:mad:
You think I can still return it, even though I have just worn it? You can't see it has been worn...
bet you can smell it though!:D
Yer all perverts, the lot of yer. Get thee hence to a cycling-puff forum!
Started to do the Tintwistle loop on the PBW website, but hate out and backs, so made into a loop by dropping down to the canal, up through stalybridge country park, below Hobson Moor to Roe Cross, towards Hollingworth Hall and down to Arnfield Resr. Front brake failed so all on 1 brake. Was further/ probably harder than the official route (down as 3 - 5 1/2 hr) Did it in less than 2 1/4.
OK, it was yesterday.
Over to the Denbigh Moors, still pockets of snow in the ditches, but had to strip off gilet as temps got above 20 degrees. Clwydian Hills to my right & snow capped Snowdonia to my right, 20 minutes later I could see Cader Idris & was approaching the Llantysilio Mountains.
We're lucky people :) .
85 miles & 1600 mtrs climb, longest distance & time in the saddle I've done.
Well done , 85miles is a good distance. I can just picture the views. I did Leg 3 of the BG and back yesterday and it was as clear as a bell. We are lucky people but we work at it dont we.
A couple of questions
Are you planning a hundred ? and did you get the hunger knock on the ride.
Always hard to know what clothes to have on in spring on the bike. Its either tooooo hot or cold:D
Good Effort FR
10m TT yesterday: planned long 26 was a 26.33 and a 50 second pb, so well happy :)
Today I took Dom out for a recovery ride... :D
I could have quite comfortably added another 15 miles to round it up, but wanted to get back for a 45 minute run. As soon as I got home my wife wanted me to look after the kids so she could nip out  . That'll teach me ;) .
Didn't feel near bonking. I went out with 2 bottles of homemade energy drink - maltodexterin (60g), fructose (5g) & whey protein (5g) - with another mix in a bag, 2 bananas & 2 PowerBars. I stopped to fill up the bottles & buy a Snicker.
I can imagine it was hot on the hills yesterday, but it's about time.
Still not warm enough to get my knees out on the bike.
Rode out to Chapel-Le-Dale to take some pics of the hilly 50 mile Circuit of the Dales TT. New course record set by Mark Holton in good conditions. Got a good pic of him, full set uploading to SumgMug now. Clocked a certain Wharfedale forumite cycling through although not in the race! I probably got 75 miles in myself.
