On my (gentle toddle of a) run this evening, Ingleborough was hidden under a dark and ominous rain cloud. A freezing cold hail shower blew over my way but soon cleared and its sunshine now. My expert opinion..... sunshine and showers :)

Have fun all:thumbup:
Good Luck everyone
I've only ever done the Fellsman once and sadly my hip problems mean it will probably remain my one and only time. But it's a wonderful event, a really fantastic challenge, which has left an indelible mark on me. I've a few friends running tomorrow. But as well as them, I wish you all the best of luck.
My performance on the 3ps only allowed me to catch the last few competitors coming off Whernside but it was great to see Suzanne giving loads of encouragement to the 3P'ers.
Guessing it was a good running day but there will be a few red faces tomorrow! With any luck one of the Belper boys will be finished by now - Go Saul!
hoping to be out next year.
A close finish after 61 miles!.......http://www.grough.co.uk/magazine/201...ust-one-minute
First ever Fellsman done with Martyn P and Mrs P, managed 18 hrs 31, absolutely knackered but very chuffed:thumbup:
Just got home after a fantastic day out, we were so lucky with the weather. I ran with my friend Jackie and we didn't have one single bad patch, in fact we really enjoyed the whole thing and met some interesting people along the way. We cruised round at a steady pace and thought we were on for around 17hrs 30 but things changed after we were grouped at Cray. One of our party had a bad patch at Park Rash so we tried to help him the best we could. We walked for quite a long time but he came round eventually and managed to run down the track at the end. We ended up doing 18:04 which we're very pleased with. It's very difficult when you set your mind on a particular time in this race as it often doesn't go to plan.
Thank you to all the organisers and helpers. The friendly faces and fantastic food were very welcome at the many checkpoints enroute. Well done to everyone else who completed the Fellsman yesterday.
Thanks to the ro and all the helpers was a fantastic event and really well organised 1st time for me as I have been running 7months really happy to get around in 12hrs 37min big thanks to the 2 lads that kept me moving really well
Ha! She did very well thanks Ian and was instrumental in finding the right line off Dodd Fell through to Fleet Moss - I noticed several people not going the way the organisers wanted.
Of course, she would be the first to give the credit to her navigational instructors ..... :D
16 hours 42 for me... and I felt as sick as a pig on and off, especially between Redshaw and Fleet Moss. Fortunately the fabulous bean stew at Fleet Moss picked me up brilliantly and I felt good (relatively speaking) from there to the end

Full route on strava here :)
Well done to one and all - a truly epic race - in fact, I think that's the most enjoyable race I've ever run (now that's throwing the gauntlet down!).
Enjoyed it soooo much.
Done a write up on my blog.
Be interested to see any other write ups knocking about ?
Here's my blog update :)
Enjoyed that Stolly, nice campsite too. Will remember that one for future trips
NIce write up Stolly- like the profile of the route. The moon was amazing!
Karen although I didn't realise it was you at the time it was me that 'left you for dust' ;) on the last little climb going up Great Coum. You then proceeded to nail my sorry ass going down the other side of course and soon became a fast dwindling dot on the horizon
Had a great weekend again. Karen - I believe you were "camping" next to me in the school hall!
Enjoyed the write-ups, here's mine - I've 'borrowed' a couple of images for added dramatic effect as the photos I took are corrupted... Hope no-one minds!
Cheers - time to put the marzipan away for another year :sneaky:
Great profile chart Geem ;).
Oh and an interesting story regarding grouping: I heard this morning that a team was DQ'd over night for not keeping together - when our group reached the Great Whernside CP the chap manning it asked if we were the group who'd been warned about staying together (we weren't). He thought it'd therefore be the next group behind us, about half a mile back, and had clearly been asked over the radio look out for them and check up. Don't know whether the group behind us were the team DQ'd or not but the organisers were clearly on it like a bonnet!
Not sure if any of them are on the forum, but I'd like to say thanks to the group of 6 Dallam AC runners I was grouped with for their great company and for kicking my a*se at Cray when I was ready to retire and then for keeping me going to the finish. I got back in 18:40ish which I could not have imagined at Cray. What a great race this is...
Great event. My ITB gave me a bit of grief, but apart from that I enjoyed pretty much the whole day. My second Fellsman and I thought, despite the excellent weather, ground conditions were worse than in 2010... lots of energy sapping bogs to savour!
Had the good fortune to get chatting to someone doing their 25th Fellsman after Snaizeholme. Not only was he a top bloke but he took me (and several other lucky runners) on a geat line round the south of Fleet Moss. We ended up in a group of six at Cray and were grouped for the rest of the event. We had a young lad with us who was suffering with his stomach quite a bit, but he dug in and we all stuck together and made it round in good nick. Not sure on exact time. I know there was about 20 minutes from Yarnbury to get in under 16hrs and went as fast as I could, which wasn't very fast at that point. Not sure if I squeeked in or not as the official clock was different to mine and I couldn't remember exacctly what minute we started. Anyway, it's neither here nor there after a day like that!
Good to see Mark L, Mrs S, Protodoc and Martyn and missus. Sounds like you all had a good day.
Thanks as always to the organisers and marshalls for putting on such an enjoyable and challenging event.
Stolly- sorry not to really meet you as I see your posts on here lots. I had a very bad patch from mid way up Gragareth to mid way up Great Coum- legs went to jelly, stomach ache, felt feeble and tearful! Strong words to self to man the F up etc and work on hauling in the guys in front. Flew down to Dent with Jon S and flet a bit better with some real food inside me.
Had a bit of hard time on my first Fellsman - started strong, full of energy and feeling good for 17 miles then.. pulled up going down from Great Coum to Flinters Gill with the re appearance of a right knee issue that stopped me running! Hobbled in to Dent after loads of runners flying past me (Stolly - I recognized you as one of them) and decided to just get my head down and walk strong to finish.
Got in after about 18hrs 40! Not what was planned but an unforgettable and invaluable experience!
What an event - massive well done and thanks to at the Fellsman - Thank you!
well done for keeping going and finishing Kev 8-)
I loved it.
Two huge achievements for me in 6 days, wow, life is good. first ever sub 3 at VLM and then a FellsMan Finisher (and in a decent time I'm well happy with in the circumstances ~13 and a half hours)
As a newbie, how long does it take for the results to come out usually?
I was determined to do a steady start his year after suffering from Dent onwards last year.
It really paid off as I was able to switch from easy mode to steady mode and keep it going all the way to Buckden Pike.
I didn't think I was on for much of a pb until I ran into two fellas who gave me the impression that a sub 14hrs was possible. I went a bit bonkers then on the run in to Park Rash. As soon as I sat down waiting to be grouped I knew I'd overdone it and I ended up hanging on to the back of the group - it's very humiliating. Valuable lesson learned and I like to think that I didn't cost too much time.
It was nice to see a lot of familiar faces.
The lady on the desk on Saturday morning asked whether she looked tired as she had had very little sleep. And that's before we heroes had even started! It's a big team and they do a heck of a lot. I'm not sure how many times I'd be willing to volunteer to sit in a tent on a bleak moor all night clipping tallies and shouting out numbers. Or putting out beacons, or telling the 150th person "there's tea, coffee, soup, hot chocolate...", or cooking, cleaning, driving...... When you think about it, it's such a massive operation. And it's been happening for more than 50 years now. Thanks everyone.
What time did you do Mark. Looked for you on Sunday but perhaps you had gone home?
Agree - they all do an amazing job. As I was showering at half past midnight a lady was refreshing after a 3 hour kip before driving out to a CP etc! They have as many volunteers as runners/hikers.
It was great to see you Karen. Running behind you over Whernside I was thinking - flippin' heck, this woman's on her 25th ultra of the year, I'm on my second!
I got into the finish at 11:25 ish. I'm waiting to see what my official time is.
It'll be a big improvement on last year but I'm already analysing where I could save a few minutes here, gain a few minutes there. Though I hate to say it, not wearing Hokas might be a good start!
We had the caravan in Settle so I shot off that night after shower and chilli.
WOW. That's an impressive time. Are you sure were you behind me- I thought you were heading down as I was still plodding up?
I did see you slip and fall once but so did Jon and he had Salomons on I think
You're thinking of Gragareth. It was the other way round on Whernside, honest! I then followed you along the Whernside ridge until you stopped to tie your shoe laces. I then saw you again on Gregareth. It'll be interesting to see the hi tech split times this year.
I frequently see people in fell shoes fall over while I stay upright in my Hokas. My problem is that I usually make up significant time during descents while recovering at the same time. The Hokas wouldn't let me descend as fast as I would have liked, and the ground was so wet that I didn't really get any benefit from the Hokas' ample sponge. I'll have to be a little more discerning in my shoe choice in future. OR - get my Hokas resoled with a fell sole recommended by Mrs Stagger - now there's a thought!
Good to see you again too, Chris. I won't say good luck for June because you obviously won't need it based on Saturday.
I'm no Stolly, but there are some pictures of the day in my blog, and a few more mentions of Dallam!

Well done to all those who finished, commisserations to those who withdrew en route and a huge thanks to all the organisers and volunteers. Thanks to Carl, Russel, Toby for their company through the night! I made it round in give or take 21 hours. Not as fast as some, but I am chuffed to have got round :)
See you next year!
Really impressed with some of the times recorded here - fantastic effort, well done all of you! Well done Protodoc, a great time and makes up for you not being able to compete last year. This was my first Fellsman and definitely the hardest running event I've ever done. The triple-whammy of Ingleborough, Whernside and Gragareth made for a tough start and nearly broke me. I ran with my mate Tony George and ended up being grouped with two guys, Phil and Barry at Fleet Moss who we'd been running close to since the Blea Moor section. Phil had done about 13 Fellsmens and had the nav nailed. The 4 of us made a good group and weirdly we seemed to speed up as the night wore on. We flew up Buckden Pike (although I nearly puked with the effort!) and ploughed on to the finish stopping for the shortest amount of time at the checkpoints. With a dawn chorus of curlews and lapwings all around us we were happy to finish in just over 20 hrs. Quite amazing to meet all these cheery marshalls standing in the perishing cold in the middle of nowehere and all the organisation with the catering and everything - amazing people - we are VERY GRATEFUL!
Yep, it's up there comparable to the big rounds and the L100, in my opinion.
As for the second oint - too true. You have to do an AL fell race just as a starter!
Interesting point: there is a lot written about the terrors of Fleet Moss. However, going up Gt Knoutberry I was longing for Fleet Moss for a bit of "flat" running.
