Do not know how it is for other people but with Easter so early this year the race is actually at the beginning of the school holidays. That could scupper me as I may be away
My kids' schools are off Friday 22nd March 2013 through to Monday 8th April 2013
The race is the 24th of March.
With all of the dithering at home I do not know if I will be around that weekend
The race information is at www.dpfr.org.uk/pages/3
Worth having read before entering in only 25 hours time.
Am surprised as I'd expected more hysteria on here! Still time for that I suppose... :)
Can we choose to hire the SI card through the application process, or do we do that separately?
Hopefully be running this this year.
I think they are still looking for marshalls and helpers if anyone can?
:)
Just a minor change to this checkpoint as we are using live tracking at that CP and it needs a mobile signal. I never got one at the original CP hence the move.
Also using it at both road crossings and grindlow knoll. It will let us know, in real time, when people have cleared those sections of the course. And will narrow the area needed to be searched if people are missing and let us know they are missing a lot sooner too.
It's quite expensive to use, but with a field of this size in a potentially wintery race, I felt it was worth the money. It's one reason why the race is quite a bit more expensive this year.
Right that's my entry in. I've got unfinished business with this race. I bombed 2 years ago and finished right near the back. Time to get some serious training in.
Entry has gone in this morning - excited!
Anyone free next Thursday or Friday to go out and recce it? Based in Sheffield and have wheels...
My entry is in. I'm doing lots of training and am looking forward to some new terrain.
In! 324 entries so far!
I'm in! Going to strictly regulate what I eat the few days beforehand this time so I don't end up staying up most of the night before with food poisoning! (Still staggered round, but over 5 hours instead of the sub-4 I was hoping for!)
What is the entry limit this year? Just curious as the entry list is fast approaching 400!
I think it is 500
I'm quite surprised at just how quick it is filling up! The entry limit is set (for now) at 425 but I will accept 550 entries. So if the race is 'full' then please enter to get on to the waiting list.
I have arranged to keep these places back for people likely to be competitive in any of the age group categories. Plus, ahem, a few people who I owe favours to :)
if this sounds like you then, once you have entered, please email me to state your case. please include your SI details etc as it will make it easier for me.
Please spread the word on this as I imagine that people will be worried about not being able to run...
383! It will be full by lunchtime at this rate! I am in.
Good idea Alf...just got to get my hands on it. Running the Pembrokeshire Coast Path with him he nicked my map and then called it his 'man equipment' and I only got a look now and again:wink:. Not that navigation was exactly difficult on that! Be good to see you at Edale :)

I know why ROs do this, but sometimes it does irk me somewhat, and I do have to ask myself, why should someone be 'guaranteed' a place, just because they are a quick runner? Everyone else has to be organised and ready to enter, why can't "championship contenders" also be organised?
Not overly bothered about it, but sometimes it just niggles a bit :p
The clue is on the phrase "English Championships" - i.e. races designed to find out who are the best fellrunners in England. What I find rather hard to grasp is why so many people who are not championship contenders feel the need to enter championship races...
Surely the race should be on the fells, not to get to the entry in!
I'll be organising an informal race for spectators and camera-folk, to see if we can get from the start-field to Mam Tor/Nick (direct route) before Compo and his pack get there, and back across to Grindlow Knoll, before Compo and his pack get there, and then down (with no up) to the finish-field, before Compo and his pack get there.
Not sure if its do-able, but willing to try. :D
The hint of a suggestion that Championship races should only be for championship contenders doesn't recognise that the championships use regular events. If you run in an event regularly rather than just because it's a Championship race, then if it is made a championship race one year I see no reason to apologise for wanting to still enter even if I'm not a championship contender. Have done the skyline the last couple of years and will enter it again next year when it's not a championship race.
I'll nip in early-on and quote Amex (hope you dont mind Amex):

I would hate it to spoil a good race thread.
As with all things in life we are all right and we are all wrong."
