I've been added to a couple of existing segments from uploading the last time I did Hope Wakes fell race. Hopefully not your one though! I wasn't planning on stepping on any forum toes!

As a noob to strava and garmin altogether I was confused after last nights trot. My track was out by a fair bit. First loop I did was way out! Is this common? clouds, trees, satalleite trouble??
I'm enjoying using gps as an easy way to keep a training diary. Struggle at anything organisational wise...

Think its a good idea to rename and change start points of segments strava makes for you.
I've noticed some climbs where my times weren't showing because the end point was further on after the summit.
Satellites - garmin may say it has satellites but it'll still take a bit of time to get it properly right. Buildings will also have a say. It should vaguely remember where you shut it down, but mine still has to think about picking them up outside my house (but is fine with getting them at some random moorland car-park miles away - maybe garmin also make GPS for doggers?!)
Segments - the 'auto-segment' feature is a pain in the arse and they should really get rid of it - I keep on having to delete segments I make during orienteering events, as they're never going to get run again (and they're also pitifully slow!). Also, calling the ascent of Sandy Heys 'A57 Climb' strikes me as bordering on sacrilege!
Knowing there was a segment on today's ride certainly changed the way we rode. We blasted up the Coal Road past Dent Station only to find snow and ice before the top. But I'd worked that hard on the way up, not even snow was going to stop me posting a time. So I jumped off and dragged the road bike through the drifts for the last 400 yards. Yeah! Top 10! I think this is getting rather obsessive already!
Nice article here on Strava...

haha no.. it'll be interesting to watch it develop though.. I reckon strava will work well in the popular places like dark peak..
I genrally don't target any hills and just run my run.. but realised I was a long way off a guy using strava who used the name 'X pretty boy Y'.. professional boxer who you had to request to follow (which I haven't..).. seemed a bit full of it.. so took his KOM.. I'm awaiting a response..
Maybe your satellite is a bit defective ba-ba. My satellite always worked well.
I've stopped using my GPS now, to prevent Garmin having to send up any more satellites. There must be thousands of them, doing little loops above national parks.
Doing my bit for the planet. ;)
