So very, very jealous of you guys! We had an awesome trip up there last year! We toured Islay, went to all but one distillery. Saw Chough and Eagles. Ran the race, which was just fantastic...I loved the run in!! Canoed in the bay with the seals........so wish I was going up this weekend!! The sun even shined the whole week we were up there!

Due to injury, we've had to dip out of our Jura trip.

Bit of an error on our part, slow to book the Calmac ferry and now its fully booked for Friday. Does anyone have any spare spaces in their car for a lift from Kennacraig to Craighouse?
There are four of us, so not expecting to get into one car. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and obviously we'll chip in with the fare.

Don't bother with the campsite at Lochranza (unless you really want a shower) , just go through the village past the ferry terminal, past the tea shop and on to the road down the west coast. (Before you get to Catacol village) after approx 1km there is an awesome grassy layby on the left, there is even a park bench. The Catacol (Inn) 1km further on serves great food and beer (Arran Blond) too.Quote:

Am booked on the Jura Passenger Ferry Tayvallich to Craighouse at 8:00 pm on the Friday evening and back across on the 9:30 am ferry on Sunday. Peak/Sheffield area easy or around the M6/pick up in Lakes.

I also managed to get photos of the finish positions and times and put them on the bottom, hopefully they'll be zoomable. or at least blow-up-able if you click on them.
Hectors time was quite unbelievable.
And chatting to Roger Ashby afterward about how he found the cut offs- his exact words were... "well, I Stress-tested them".
Superb effort all round.

There are a few different transport options. We opted to leave the car in Kennacraig on the mainland and catch the ferry first to Islay (Port Askaig) and then to Jura (Feolin). It's 8 miles from Feolin to the race start in Craighouse, so we (along with most others) took our bikes. You could also book your car on if you book early enough, or there's a bus service from Feolin to Craighouse.Quote:

Forgot about accommodation!
The Jura Hotel has a lawn which you're able to camp on. By next year they should have a proper toilet block built (it was portaloos and showers this year) and I've heard will charge £5 pppn for it (it was free this year).
There's also the option of staying in the hotel itself, and there are also a number of holiday cottages on the island. They'd have to be booked well in advance though.

Just made my way back. Great weekend again. Fun cycling over, apart from getting stuck in a cloudburst on the Boguille. Was very pleased to find out there was a SYHA in Lochranza. 2 Glasses down!
