Nice shots Wharfey :)
Sheesh i remember that little gate, i leapt through it sideways to try and hold off some guys behind me but my form was sh*t, properly framing like a tart so i got dicked by most of them :(
That little gate was a right little bugger!
[QUOTE=biara;268191]You missed me out, but I've not seen the photos yet...QUOTE]

Why am I going the opposite way?
By the way Wharfee - have you uploaded the rest somewhere?
Aye, cracking race. Have enjoyed reading everyones comments. It seems that this is a bit of a favourite with all that did it. Got pipped by Emma Clayton right at the death. No shame there mind.
What comes down must've gone up AR;)
All the Wharfedalers are on the Wharfee website. The rest are on my computer. If any one thinks I might've snapped a photo of 'em then pm me and I'll send th'original.
P'raps I need to use one o'them sites like Flickr...is it easy to upload to?

What?
No thread?
Best up and down of the year.
Possible venue of next years FRA relays and organised by our own Peejay.
And:w00t:
Desperately hoping to shift this week-long cold so I can be there.
Pass the orange juice!
I'm not back from Asia until Sunday so will miss it. Certainly one of the best if not the best descent in the Dales
Killer route!
The start is insane!
Not for me this year thanks :)
I'd love to be landing face first in the bog again but i'll be marshalling this year instead, i'll be taking some pictures though if i'm not too busy. Is it going to be a final counter for that championship whatever it was like last year?
Hang on, lemme check....
I think Great Whernside's descent is liked because so much of it is on almost a perfectly banked sheep grazed lawn. It is fantastic fun to run down - a bit tricky near the top but super fast nearer the bottom. I'm not sure what constitutes a 'great descent' anyway and presumably everyone prefers different things. I personally think that the best descent I've been down in the Dales (that actually appears in a fell race) is the Pen Y Ghent fell race route descent where, having come off the main bit of the hill you then whiz down through the grass on a fairly slick trod all the way to Hull Pot.
If you're talking about non-fell race descents, then there are frigging loads of good 'uns: Gragareth trig down to Yorda's Cave in Kingsdale, Park Fell into Ribblesdale, Firth Fell down to Buckden, Whernside trig down into Kingsdale (albeit a bit short), Whernside trig down to Ribblehead (the reverse of the 3P ascent and an absolute humdinger), the monks path just above Yew Cougar Scar down into Arncliffe, Weets Top down to Calton, Kirkby Fell down to Malham, Moughton down to Helwith Bridge (on the grassy slope between the quarries) and...well the list could go on.
Don't you diss the Dales Fellhound :D
The narrow wall gap is fun too, slows down a lot of the *ahem* larger competitors allowing whippets like myself to gain ground.
Where does the route go?
Thanks
No Dales-dissing here Stolly :D
Actually, having thought about it, it IS probably the best in a race. :o
A favourite of mine is Buckden Pike down to Buckden by the main path, which actually used to be part of the race many years ago. The new route is better overall but the more direct descent used now is broken by a long undulating traverse.
