Aye. Bring it on. This'll be my first run of 2010!!:o

Good run over Pendle today!!
Battled through the deep snow and hurricane winds on top! Bit nippy!
Bring on next week :)
Yup, cheers for that Martin, just the kick up the arse I needed.
Sitrep:
Cankle on left foot, looks like an 80 yr old granny's foot;
Wet patches on my lower trouser legs where they're sticking to my shins after having the flesh stripped from them;
Really sore left heel, feels bruised (I think from where the Walshes rub?);
Ligaments crunching on both ankles - one too may ankle turns on the way back down methinks.
But all well worth it. Beautiful snow formations on the top, icy gales, and a memorable dash/slide down Big End (oo-er, not what it sounds like, honest!:o)
Bring on this Sunday!
Bloodyhell mate sounds like it took its toll!!
They were pretty grueling conditions though that morning! :)
I came back from Downham thru Barley on Sunday and 's'all good in da hood.
We did an approximation of Pendle Cloughs route from start to CP4, then back up to the trig as per 1st FTOP climb, then back to Downham following the Pendle Cloughs route back.
Details:

(Note backtrack from trig as we chased after the map which blew out of my hands. Didn't retrieve it: blowing too fast.:o)
Depth of snow: anything between ankle to waist. On top it's a bit of a slog for heffers like Hursty and me, as we just sink thru the icy crust up to our knees. Happy days!:D
there is heavy snow forecast for the area from lunch time saturday
don't plan too far ahead!

The roads will be fine by then for sure, providing the snow stays away. :)
As for the snow, well it varies all over, but on the main paths its not too bad at all, nice and compacted, not too icey thanks to all the budding Everest wannabes going up in there plenty.
As soon as you go off piste, which I tend to do, thats when the fun starts! As noted, it can be up to waist deep but generally about 6 to 12 inches, and in some places its deep but you can run over the top without sinking, more so than myself and SS I would say!
Going up tomorrow, so will see what the crack is then.
EDIT - I tend to do random routes, usually from CP2, then continue along FTOP to CP4, or maybe miss out geranimo and head from the top of Spence moor off piste to CP5 or 6, I've done all the big climbs in the snow we have now, and they are no bother in the snow, if not easier to descend really :)
cheers dudes...and dudette! :D
Gary, you doing any running at pendle this sunday, i may be up for a trot
Yes, Pendling Sunday, but with a twist.
0800, from Barley and starting with a hard hill sprint circuit session on one of the reservoir banks, then c2hr's worth of running. Tentatively I'd say 2nd half of FTOP, but if snow is still deep there's no way we'd fit this into 2hrs, so we can make the call on the day.
So. Who's with me?
Tell you what, i'm up for it, c you at 8a.m
Should be there as well :)
Excellent! Good to see we've got a crowd forming!:D
Can I ask that if you're coming along - and you have one - you bring a watch that has a countdown timer? Have yet to decide if I'm gonna do the circuits on a rep or timed basis, but would be good to have the option for the latter. TBH, I think this'd be my preference.
Alf, was planning circuits'til 9 (don't panic - allows for a not so prompt 0800 start:rolleyes:, time to get to the banking and a proper warm up/stretch session). Aim to get to the banking (lower res) by 0845 and you won't miss us. You never know though, you might enjoy the circuit?;) Seriously tho', you could always leave out the hill sprints.
Just finished putting the circuit together. Should be a good one!:D;)
Just to put it all in our memories....can mr sofite or hursty as some point....take me round the pendle cloughs route before the race please?
I'll catch the train from preston to which ever station is nearest...nelson for softie...duno where hursty lives.
Will be doing a couple of recces before the race Al, worry not. Watch this space.;)
I have a cheapo stopwatch to bring (thats if it still works) and if i can suss how to use it. i'm not planning on performing too well with the sprints/circuits but we'll see. I will be bringing the dog he's my pace maker :D
Also will be wearing my ron hill tracksters, i never wear anything else, legally allowed to show my legs off in public!!
Going to give it a miss tomorrow I think. Stomach is playing up, which is unusual, but I think rest will be a good option!
Have a good run, careful of the ice up there! Plenty of it around, but the snow is well on its way out :)
Shame:(. Still owe you that tea, and I dug out those books for you. Wasn't the thought of the circuit, was it?;):p
Hehe, well I'll see how I feel in the morning, just airing on the side of caution, another beasting on Pendle might be one too many for the week!
Cheers for digging those books out! They have only gone and changed my date again to 14th of April now lol, dunno whats going on with them!
Okay, so Hursty was ill, what happened to the rest of you?;):p
I was there Gary! a bit late but I was there. I left Barley car park about 9am and ended up doing the second half of the FTOP. I didnt see any fell shoe tracks till I descended Pendle heading back to Barley. I then saw two sets, one was Salomons (chevrons) and the other set was Walsh. I assumed that was you and Hursty doing another route of Pendle?. Checked at the cafe on the way back but you weren't there. It was pretty misty up there today but not much snow/ice to negotiate till the descent and final climb up the big end of Pendle.
Sorry I missed you, these early starts are difficult for me :D
Aye sorry mate, I've been hit with fatigue so I think the right choice was made, had a nice lie in and done nothing all day, and now the Masters final to bring the week to the end, nice one!
Aye they could have been our tread marks from yesterday Alf, one of the lads had Walshes on, and I had me Salomons on hehe :)
Not to worry Alf. I finished my circuits at 9 and stretched, looking back own the road but couldn't see you. Then headed up behind fell wood. I must have just been heading oit of view as you got to the res.
I carried on to the top of Geronimo; down it; along to pick up the Boar Clough route to the trig; from the trig down on the track parallel to and below the steps; and where the steps meets the cart track headed straight up again to the trig. Then went back on the walkers' path through the fields bringing me out by the Village Hall.
Needed the company to do those circuits, where bravado/competitiveness would have pushed me harder. Only managed 4 sets where I was aiming for 5, and my run on dead legs started off slowly and took longer than planned to shake it off.
Absolutely draining: a great sesh!:D
Wheres everyone running this weekend.
Pendle, bowland, winter hill.....im up for something sunday!
Incase softie see's this and is free - i cant get to nelson until 09:03 at the earliest (first train of the day) so if your on with an early start worry not.
I'll be up for the same as last week: 0800, Barley Car Park, 1 hour's hill sprint circuit, then 2hrs running. Sorry Al, can't make it later.:(
One problem: decorating tomorrow, and if I don't get far enough it'll go into Sunday, which may mean I have to call it off. I'll post an update on here tomorrow night.
Holla.
Hey no worries softie. Enjoy your beasty sesh!
Will know tomorrow night if I'm game for a sunday trot!
