Re: Edale Skyline Fell Race
Could anyone please tell me which way is the race run from Lose Hill to Hollins Cross? Last year it went over Back Tor and not through Brockett plantation which was out of bounds.
I want to come and watch the race after crocking my ankle on the Thursday evening after registering. Marvelous.Don't worry I transfered my place to a team mate so it wasn't wasted.

Re: Edale Skyline Fell Race
I'll soon be sending out a final email, hopefully to the right people this time - but that's another story!
But if people could spread the word about a very minor, but important route issue. As normal the route will be marked from Brown Knoll Trig - the NT are building us a new stile to cross the fence to the new flagged path. This MUST be followed to its junction with Jacobs ladder then head down that to the new jacobs ladder Checkpoint.
I know some people have cut the corner on recce trips but this involves crossing walls/barbed wire fences which is obviously not acceptable in a race. there will be a couple of extra marshals up there to remind people of this.
And please read the information on kit requirements at http://dpfr.org.uk/pages/3 ; we are strict on this and don't want people to be disappointed if they can't run due to not having the right stuff.
You check your details on the entry list here - https://www.sientries.co.uk/list.php?event_id=962
I've a lot of people from all over the country offering help in the last few days, its fantastic that so many people want to be involved!
really quite good this fell running community malarkey int it...

Quick couple of questions on that;
1. Thin baselayer helly/smartwool - Is a normal Helly ok or does it need to be a warmer one? (I don't own one that's all)
2. Mini survival bag - I have a bright orange cheapy survival bag that's basically a big heavy duty plastic bag, is that ok?
3. Mobile phone - do you have to carry one or is it an optional extra?
I was hoping not to bore on about kit again but just wanted to check rather than screw up and not bring some obscure item along which would be pretty annoying.

As it says a helly type layer will be fine. I'm not aware they make anything thicker.
Orange bag will be fine although the forecast would need to be really bad for those to be insisted on
You are welcome to carry a mobile but it's not essential.

Re: Edale Skyline Fell Race
Cheers Ian, that's cleared that up. Helly do make a warmer base layer but I've never bothered buying one as I expect it would be too warm for me

If my Edale experiences are anything to go by being 'too warm' at the Edale Skyline is really unlikely :). You're up on the ridge line all the flipping time and, if the winds blowing, its br-br-brassic.

When I said too warm, I meant that I would usually wear a normal Helly if it's chilly and then add a jacket or a gillet if it was colder. I recce'd 2nd half a few weeks ago in a Helly with a montane featherlite windproof over the top and it was fine, even though my eyelashes and buff froze on the top near Jacobs ladder!

Clearly weren't there last year! ;) I was begging for some kind of breeze! Still hoping the weather will lean that way by the weekend (but not quite as hot!)

I didn't do it last year but this is me (and Hazzer) running the Blakey Blitz on the same day :). I doubt I will be dressing similarly at the Skyline!

Re: Edale Skyline Fell Race
Long term forecast is for some cold wet(snowy weather) with 20mph winds(sorry 30KPH) Kit check will be thorough and "may" involve extra kit so bring extra just incase.we'll post an update nearer the time.
Please allow extra time for getting there, car parking, kitcheck and registration. This will be the biggest field ever for the skyline,so don't turn up with minutes to spare......

Re: Edale Skyline Fell Race
I may have missed this but can anyone advise the final date for giving up an entry and passing it over to someone else. I had to miss Wolfs Pit yesterday as I have just picked up a calf strain. Edale could now be in jeopardy but I dont want to make a final decision until at least Thursday if possible. I do have a friend who would like my entry if I dont run?

After discussion with Martin Stone, who is managing the SI side of things, midnight Wednsday is the last chance to swap entries.

Re: Edale Skyline Fell Race
Yesterday there was still snow lying about, but the tracks will be much slidier than last year, I reckon that could add on 20 minutes to last years times :o

Ya I was up on the Hayfield side of kinder yesterday and the melting snow is making the paths very wet and slippy. The second half will be challanging.

Re: Edale Skyline Fell Race
I'm considering the direct route to Ringing Roger at the end. What's the river crossing like?

I suspect if you were asking questions about Ilkley Moor of wjb he'd be able to be quite sarky back too :). I just googled Grindsbrook Clough wjb and surprisingly enough Grinds Brook is a brook. I'd kind of like to give the down and up (and down) finish a go too but just haven't got the foggiest idea of the line. If the guy in front of me on the day goes for it, so will I :D

It's easy. Just follow to the left of the wall, left of the trees to the bottom of Golden Clough. Then straight up the side of Golden Clough and across to Ringing Roger. Guaranteed to save you 10 minutes. It's not as bad as it looks.

Good BG training. Might make a trail run into something useful :closed:

As I'm injured, I might stoll along to see how many do it.

One of the top 3 contenders lost 3 places taking that approach in 2010. Having said that, it works well for Lloyd each year, and he extended his lead on this section the last time it was a champs counter.
I tried it once in a training run. I went down and up, my mate went round the path. I beat him by a minute, but my average heartrate was 160, his had been 145. I concluded you need to be fresh enough to do it quickly.
Good luck. I think most people will go round the top.

Re: Edale Skyline Fell Race
Hi. I'm sure this has been asked and answered before - sorry. Am I correct in saying we are using dibbers this year at the checkpoints? If so, can the race be tracked on the si-entries website like the Yorkshire 3 peaks last year?
Thanks.
-
Re: Edale Skyline Fell Race
Booked Monday off work, I think I may need the rest..

We are using live tracking but unfortunately it won't be on the public server, it adds a fair bit of expense to what is already quite a big bill.
If anyone would like to sponsor these cost next year I'd be happy to do it...

shouldn't that be followed by an evil mmmwwwwaaaahhhhhh
you nned to be a dab hand at descending as well as climbing
I take it you will be doing the down and up Geoff
-
Re: Edale Skyline Fell Race
Given my lack of race fitness (due to a niggly injury over the past month or so), I'll just be happy to get round.
Not even entertaining the merest suggestion of the up and down!
Might just be "properly fit" in time for Fairfield!
-
Re: Edale Skyline Fell Race
Does anyone have approximate splits for a 4 hour round? All the old web links to historic splits seem to be broken. I know there will be much variety but it looks like 1 hr 05 to win hill and 2 05/10 to mam nick cut off might be reasonable?

You must be joking - I'm going round the top.
