Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
Looks like I'm in...a fine way to 'celebrate' my new age category! Will keep me motivated during training too.
-
Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
I'm in! Will be my first time ...
-
Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
I'll probably be trotting round two or three times before the race - any hangers on welcome :)
-
Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
Might take you up on that Stolly !
-
Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
I'm not and I think I'll stay away this year, I'll have a look at some thing fresh.
-
Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
I'm in for my first 3Ps... need to get my hill training in as I died towards the end of tour of pendle and hobbled in with cramping legs....
Jogged the 3Ps in january snow last year - stopped for a bacon butty at ribblehead - i hope you can do that in the race as it worked a treat :)
-
Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
Do what you need to do to get round Neil ! I'm going with flat Cola this year.

Help! As a virgin 3 peaker, what should be the backbone of training?

Practice running 3.5 miles up a hill, sprinting another 1.5 miles off of it, running over muddy undulating hillocks for 8 miles, along a road for another 1.5 miles, then up an effing great steep, and ever steepening, hill for 2 miles, (be sure to practice getting cramp at this point), then a fast descent over broken boulders for 1 mile, then another 1 mile of track and road running, then 2 miles running on limestone crags and slabs, then a steep 0.5 mile climb to the top of a third hill before the best part of a 6 mile run in to the finish on rocks and mud :)

Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
Thanks for that stolly. No need to panic then
-
Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
Oh, and another thing Chad. Practice keeping nicely hydrated & fed whilst on the move, then forgetting completely leading to said cramp. You'll love it - afterwards!
-
Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
Not keeping hydrated was my foolish mistake last year ! Stumbled home, pathetically in 4.30 !

That pretty much sums it up (and fumbling for the dibber at each checkpoint as it has spun round your neck twice and disappeared somewhere down your back that is just out of reach)
Saturday coming we are meeting at layby on left just above Hill Inn at 8:45am and then taking a car or two to Horton to start running from there and doing Penyghent and whernside to the Hill Inn which is basically covering the two sections that are covered by the time out.
the following saturday we will be leaving a car at Horton and running from Ribblehead to Horton doing whernside and Ingleborough and then the following Saturday (29th Jan) will be doing all 3 starting from Horton.
so far
definite 2 for the 15th
3 for the 22nd
3 for the 29th
anyone welcome will be steady 5-6 hour pace

Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
I'm in, 1st time was in 2009 and I scraped in a whisker under 4:30.
Entered last year but achillies problems prevented me running, so a 3 month lay off and stretching ever since should see me round.
So the aim is to get round faster but what would be a realistic amount to be expecting to shaving off for a 45 yr old middle/rear pack runner 15/20mins?
Rich

Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
I'm Ok thanks, will be an excellent event, good luck there Rich, 1st time for me, so can't help you.
-
Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
Chamber, seriously. Take a map, but I doubt very much that you'll need it ! Get entered before it's too late.....................

oddly thats almost identical to me 4:25 in 2009 - then ankle injury stopped me last year. 4 hours is the real goal - but thats a "big ask" as they say!

I managed to creep under the 4.00 hour mark last year, having run with AS for a while, just get to Inglebugger with running in your legs. too many get here too fast and have to walk off with cramp

That was me last time I did it :(
I had to lie down and be fed with jelly babies by small children before I could get going again.
