I got it as an exam question once Hes so think how I felt :)
Gwendolyn used to write a lot about the lack of prospects for young black people particularly around the "projects" area of Chicago. She wants to help them and is not sure how as she is just a poet with no practical skills to offer.
(Or at least that's what I put in my exam if I remember correctly :rolleyes: )

Good to have the insight Alf. That sounds like a good answer too. I travelled all over Asia and felt quite helpless when faced with child poverty and prostitution and wondered what I, as an artist, could offer but I then worked for a children's charity in Peru for a few months and have done quite a bit of fund raising and charity work for various kids charities since and I also teach children now and again so I can relate to the poet's sentiment.
