the following saturday we will be leaving a car at Horton and running from Ribblehead to Horton doing whernside and Ingleborough and then the following Saturday (29th Jan) will be doing all 3 starting from Horton.
so far
definite 2 for the 15th
3 for the 22nd
3 for the 29th
anyone welcome will be steady 5-6 hour pace
I might come along on 29th for the full 3P recce (depending on whether my daughter is playing rugby that day or not). That said I tend to take a few liberties with the race route going up and then coming off of PyG so I might start a bit later and try and catch you up. Thats not to say my way is faster (I'm guessing its about the same) but I find it more fun as it cuts out virtually all of the Pennine Way and takes a more 'straight through the middle of nowhere' line. Solo at this time of year with rain and weather I'd normally aim for a 4:30 to 4:45 round so I might say do a 9:15 or 9:30 start and if I catch you up I'll run with you from there (if of course I do manage to catch you) :)

You'll be absolutely fine; loads of runners and spectators. You'll never be alone and you'll never get the map out, i guarantee it.

By Ingleborough its getting spaced, I can imagine in bad weather a map may be needed. Last year was crystal clear.
Still deciding...had a shocker last year so think I'll enter but Aprils a big month with Manx, Ireland Champs, and then also the Fling, and that follows 100k at the end of March and the HPM at the start of March. Looking like the usual legs dead by May type of year...

Yeah 4 hours is what I secretly would like to acheive, last time I was going well but Whernside took a lot out of me and then lost time getting to Ingleborough but the final run home from there saw me battling cramp and the almost overwhelming urge to sit down.
The worst cramp attacks came at the ladder stiles when you need to lift your leg higher than you have been for the last 10 miles of shuffling! I remember managing to eventually get over the 1st stile and trying to stretch and hearing the yelp of pain as the next guy lifted his leg onto the stile :D
I need to get more longer runs and hill time in on a weekend rather than just relying on total weekly mileage.
Can't wait really looking forward to it as I don't do many races.

Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
Glad I've entered this after enviously spectating at Ribblehead and Hill Inn last year.
(Tussockface, if you're reading this, tried to reply but your inbox is full! See you there also - are you in the Skyline this year?)

Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
I really fancy doing this but don't have any qualifying races yet, so next year for me

you mean I kept you going , tended your head wound when you fell as you (as are only used to the flat and smooth terrain of the peak district) and then you f*cked off and left me a mile before the end.

Very wet out there on the Peaks. Went up to I'boro summit this morning. No piccies to show, stair rods of rain and low cloud.
Ribblesdale will flood shortly; still pouring down when I started for home.

we ran from Horton this morning but just did a 4 miler over Whitber Hill and got well soaked. all the rivers streams are well up and if this rain persists then you may well be right and there will be some bad flooding

Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
I've just realised that I still qualify for this from my 2008 race and also did a few long distance things last year.
Mmmmmm I'm so tempted. I would have to put alot of hard work in between now and then. Can I do it is the question....or should I wait til 2012...decisions decisions

Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
MG it's a long time to wait 'til 2010; anything could happen by then. Seize the day and all that.

Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
My in-laws live on Whitburn Road. I've done some good training for flat races along the coast and the Tyne. You'll have to run up and down to that water tower for a few hours.
