50 miles can never be considered 'paltry'. Glad you are enjoying the cycling and well done. I love riding the bike in these conditions and today's Dales scenery was fabulous - I am so spoilt to have the Ribble Valley and Dales so close to hand.

Good couple of hours on the mountain bike. Trails are so dry at the moment it's like riding in the States... neglecting the road bike a bit but we don't get dry spells like this very often.
I didnt get out on the bike today :(
We had a crash at the Welsh National RR champs... so I spent the whole day and evening in A&E with Martyn and Gareth... who had fractured different bits and bobs... Was chucked out in the end, when they cottoned on I wasn't next of kin... It is rather shocking to find how long even serious injuries take to be seen to... 2hrs for an ambulance, then 1.5 hours down a corridor, than a few more hours in a cubicle... etc etc etc... when I left Gareth was still waiting for his op and Martyn was still waiting for a bed...
I was ok while it was all happening, now I am bliddy worried :(
cheers aidy and daz for encouraging words - was pretty pleased as route included winnats pass at half way after longstone edge (and it was really hard!! loads harder than mam nick coming the other way - i had to chunk it into tiny sections - just get to that pebble etc)
Han - hope your mates are ok!!
well done emma (what poor, ie non existant, coverage of this event in our media)

well done, its a shame most of the British team was wiped out in a car accident before the race, at least they are recovering
can't believe i had another bike crash commuting and landed on my face. think my chain got stuck and jammed as i was pedalling hard and i went over the bars and landed on my top lip on the curb!! missed knocking out any teeth (one very small chip), missed smashing my nose, just a road rashed top lip that feels the size of norway (and various other cuts and bruises). worst of all i couldn't speak well enough to stop the man from the car behind from phoning an ambulance - they let me go after they checked me over.
although in retrospect it might have been an idea to go get it swabbed more thoroughly than i could bear to do (though i did my best). had some nurofen but can't really sleep for the throbbing.
i haven't been road biking long - but i've been commuting uneventfully on my mountain bike for 3 years up til now -
Oh no Ratfink :( Sounds horrible :( Hope the swelling of your lip goes down quickly and that this hasn't put you off cycling...
Have the bike looked over at a local bikeshop, because if this was caused by a mechanical, you need to make sure it doesn't happen again!
Get well soon ratfink! Coming off's no fun, especially landing on your boat race!
You said you were pedaling hard and the chain jammed - sounds like it could have been the freewheel jamming.............? Like Han said get it checked out but make sure they check the freewheel as well.
shut up you, think I'm allowed a lunch break....given I'm still working through it :( of sorts.
anyway back to you ratfink
recover soonx
cant believe emma hijacke d the thread
right im off, just a ten minute luch for moi
OY! Stop bickering you two... ;)
Track tonight, think it may be my first ever derny paced session!
daz - wasn't changing gear, dunno - all seems to work now - just been picking grit out with tweezers.
i'm like the anti-cat recently - always seem to be landing on my face.
if you've got facebook....(don't look while eating)

who needs botox?
Well, no derny... but we had a human derny in stead and the pace was pretty fast...Managed to hang in there till the end and I became part of the human derny
Another session at 7am tomorrow, so best to bed now...
And another track session done and dusted... 3 pb's, flying 200, standing 500 and 5m TT, so well pleased with that!
25m TT tomorrow night... not on a fast course, so not expecting a pb...
how did the TT go??
Not sure Ratfink
BUT , A great ride by the Liquigas boys today. Basso certainly will take the Pink Jersey all the way now. Lots of pressure put on the pink jersey today highlighting the need for a strong team in a grand tour.
Not many miles for me this week.
Tip of the week
If you have a new bike. Protect it when its being stored by gong to B@Q and buying some of that grey pipe insulating stuff. Like foam.
It comes in two sizes and last time I got some I think it was 69p a length. One size fits toptubes perfectly. The smaller size fits rear stays a treat.
Its brilliant and your bike I guarantee will never get scratched either in the shed, garage or house. Good for when your other half DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO STAND YOU BIKE UP AND leans it on the top tube.
STAGGER get some for your new bike mate.
many years ago when i used to do mountain biking (when suspension and disc brakes were luxury breakthrough technology) - i used to have pipe insulation permanently in the corner tween top and seat tube for carrying.
just been watching the giro - emmi has onviously missed her dream race - where you get to wear pink everything if you are winning!! from your bike to to your helmet to the arms of your sunglasses!
got out on the road bike with my scabs today - managed 25miles, 2500feet, 1:40 so average speed of 15mph :-)
Should have posted yesterday... Cycled to the pub for tea, but added a bit on, so 10 miles in total. The pub is only about 1.5 miles away....
Well, I cycled... TT went well... hard conditions, very windy and cold, but the legs were doig ok and I stunned the gathered clubmates with an excellent time on that course on the day. Not a great time in the big scheme of things, but compared to the people who turned up, I was doing well. Shocked the other girl in the clb as well as her coach who seems to have it in for me this year. Two faced fella, as he was the one who thought I was fab last year, but made some mistakes and almost put me of cycling...
He though his protegee wpould storm past me and be much faster, as it stands, she wasn't! He asked me what I was on and how on earth I was suddenly so much faster than last year... well, I train for it now... He made another demeaning comment... then said on a good day you'd do sub 1.05... So I replied: no, actually, on a good day I go under the hour. He says: in your dreams girl. So I say, well, I have already ridden under 1.05, and my pb is 1.03 xx upon which he said: I don't believe that! I really don't get it, why would he doubt my pb time? WEIRD!
So that was Thursday... On Friday my legs still ached from the TT but went and did a very good, hard session at the velodrome as well. Going brilliantly at the moment and still progressing! I was even leading the points race at some stage! That was a first...
Easy recovery ride for me today in the wind and only a little rain :)
next time you race her be sure to " whoop her ass " !
For sure Lilactime :)
Been out for just over 3 hours, doing about 100 kms, hilly... It was sunny but very windy, so well pleased with the ride. Also, this was by far my longest ride since Majorca training camp, as I hardly have time to fit in anything longer than about 2 hrs between racing and working. Working all weekend, hence no races, so got up early and did a decent ride before work, with a friend. We even had a coffestop, very unusual for me :)
Feeling strong and love being on the bike, was on the Ti racer today! Happy days :) :)
