Seeing how we are back up and running here (no pun intended!) just want to a big thanks to ALL the marshals and helpers. About 70 in all at various times during the day.
Just wouldn't be possible to put on a big and complex race like the skyline with out everyone's help, time and expertise.
Some good racing today, from many but want to especially mention Vic wilkinson. She was running faster than course record pace as was 3 mins off the old record but new tweaked route is ~5 mins longer than the route the record was set on. Not sure what the convention is but she's now the moral womens record holder in my opinion.
Twitchill 'bypass' was not great but unavoidable - but I have a cracking and permanent alterternative for next year and into the future.
Plenty more people to thank more formally but tired - am going to bed now...
Cheers all!
Big thanks to everyone involved, especially the marshals who were warning us 'Careful, there's a nasty little step just ahead'.
I reckon the Twitchill detour was worth about 30 minutes. Well, I was 30 minutes slower than my previous slowest time, anyway!
Well done everyone, RO, runners and marshals and supporters out all over the route. I walked in to watch the race, packing in about 8ltrs of water from Hayfield and two bags of jelly babies...I take it from the relieved faces and empty bottles/packets that it was worth it :)
You never know, I may just run the race next year so hope some kind soul feeds/waters me!!!
What a great day and a fab race. It's a toughie but I had a good run and really loved the whole day. Thanks for the great organisation, cheery helpfulness of everyone involved and food at the end and also to Wormstone for the jellybaby and stroke of her gorgeous little dog. I've got a bad case of DOMS today:rolleyes:
Apologies to the female runner who I slapped in the face as I tripped over the man that overtook me and decided to put his brakes on...and also the poor guy who fell over near the end who I landed on top of! I think there were a few pile ups throughout the race:)
Thanks Ian and all involved in putting on the race, just a fantastic day out in a beautiful place.
For what it's worth, I compared my splits against 2012 to see how the new route affected things. I was faster on every split apart from CP4 Win Hill descent (lost about 2 minutes) and CP11 Jacobs Ladder to Grindslow Knoll (lost about 4 minutes due to the tussocks which I am rubbish at). Overall I was 3 minutes slower than 2012, so with a slight readjustment for the new route I am claiming that I was "morally" 3 minutes faster than last year! :-)
Fantastic weather yesterday for the race even with the wind on top! Nice to see some familiar faces and enjoy the views for a change!
Was the chap who suffered a head injury OK in the end?
Ha! If that poor guy had a purple vest and a camelbak, then that was me. :p No need to apologise, that's for checking I was okay!
In all honesty, if nobody else had been around I may have lay on the ground for quite some time - it was really quite wonderful to be lying down in the soft peat, even just for a moment.
Saw a few falls that didn't land quite as softly - hope folk aren't too damaged and recover speedily.
Tough race but enjoyable! Thanks to all involved in organising and well done to all that ran.
I would just like to reiterate what others have said. It was a cracking race, well organised and friendly. Ian and Dark Peak did a brilliant job. DP are actually my new club, I sent my application form in last week so one day I will repay the favours and marshall this myself. Well done guys.
Just out of interest, what was the reason for the Twitchill farm detour?
Two main reasons as I understand it
firstly the field had mixed live stock in that would have caused a big head ache to move but mainly the descent to the bottom gate is now heavily eroded, it's causing a drain pipe effect and directing water straight through the gate. The walls either side have become undermined and they have become unsafe. the local landowner has been very approachable and open to other routes.
Other races that use the same descent will be probably rerouted for the same reasons.
next years route change which I'll leave to IanF to confirm sounds really good with no tarmac and steep runnable grass/heather.:D
I walked up the path from the gate yesterday and it was very clear that 400 runners in studded shoes would have made an already eroded path into a real mess. Had the ground been wet it would have been devastating.
Come on then IanF, lets hear the new route for next year! I need to start reccying now if I'm wanting to get anywhere near the crazy times some people finished in yesterday! ;)
Well done to everyone that ran and especially those that helped, a great day out in the country and the views around the Skyline at about 4pm were beautiful.
IanDP - if that pans out that would be great, that section has always been a weak point in the route in terms of the 'Skyline'. If we could only do something about the road on Mam Nick....
I'm sure there's a comedy sketch in there
Absolutely awesome race, views and participants! Excellently organised and marshalled, a true example on how to organise and run a high profile fell race.
It was a shame to see 430 entrants on Sientries, but only 300 turn up :-( Their loss!

Here is a link to my photos from Mam Tor.
There are some really good shots here. I just scanned all of them looking for myself and I found it, I'm number 90 in photo 7520! Incidentally the guy covering my face with his elbow was the runner whose head was split open (unless there was 2 of em). Fantastic shots though, especially the ones showing the ridge.
My first time doing the race. Found it pretty punishing especially Jacob's Ladder to Grindslow Knoll into the wind. Thanks everyone for great organising, looking forward to doing it again next year.
I'm afraid I'll need to leave you hanging on what the alternative route will be until its confirmed.
But it's good! And I think it will improve the race.
Have some other plans too. But not telling you them either... ;-)
Did anyone do the up and down?
(obviously I was going to, but slipped out of contention so took the scenic route )
There was a lady from DarkPeak who was in front of me before Jacobs Ladder but then she did an odd 'shortcut' and ended up just behind at Grindslow Knoll but when I descended from Ringing Roger she was coming up so I think she did the 'down and up'. She finished 4 minutes behind me so I'd say it was slower but flipping good effort on her part!
Thanks, have "stolen" the one of me - hopefully that's ok - have credited you as taking photo.
I actually don't look too bad at Mam Tor. A shame that about a mile further on, I died and went backwards rather rapidly. Too warm for me unfortunately - was quite badly dehydrated by the end - could barely run down RR to finish. Collapsed after finishing and laid down - apparently for nearly 45mins (as my clubmate had finished by the time I moved).
Thanks to the guys who helped me - was starting to get really cold after lying down and had to be helped to put my kit on. Was fine about 10-15mins later after getting something to eat.
Thinking about giving it a crack in cooler weather in March, maybe....
That's fine Fozzy/ Richard help yourself. The worst part for me when I did it was around the Wool packs and Grindslow Knoll areas where the wet peat sucks the life out of your tired legs. Cheers Mark.
Does anyone know when there will be a confirmed date for next year?
Thanks
I'll try and find out but entries won't be until available until new year
almost certainly. there's far too many other races at the back end of the season.
I finally got to upload a few pics of this years event: http://flic.kr/s/aHsjK48Y7f
