Re: The Hebden 23rd January
There's an update on Alan's website. All looks OK.
-
Re: The Hebden 23rd January
Ah seen it now. That is good news.
-
Re: The Hebden 23rd January
Conditions are pretty much ok now. Certainly the first half is fine, might still be some snow along Dicks Lane? We were up on the last 4 or 5 miles last night and there's still a few bits and pieces up above Cragg Vale, but it's all passable.
-
Re: The Hebden 23rd January
As much I would love to to do this, with leg 2 of the Pennine RW next week and my desire to do a reasonable Trog the week after I think I will bin this in favour of a long (but shorter) steady .

Re: The Hebden 23rd January
Lovely day over in Calderdale. Brilliant to see so many forumites out, many having good runs, especially CANTONA ;) We even had a special guest appearence from birthday boy Turbo Tom. Big thanks again to Alan Greenwood who certainly knows how to organise a grand day out. Dripping sandwiches were particularly good this year!
-
Re: The Hebden 23rd January
Yes I agree Derby, weren't we lucky with the weather too? It's a fabulous route just wish I'd been able to recce it. Nice to meet Mountain Goatess and Steam Pig and a big thank you to Tussockface for helping us on some of the route.
There's an event in the summer called Moors the Merrier, can't wait to do that one too.
Thanks to all the organisers and the guys at the checkpoints, the snacks en route were fantastic.
-
Re: The Hebden 23rd January
What a good morning out. The weather was perfect, conditions underfoot pretty good too. Thanks to the two runners I led home with my routefinding for the last mile or so for letting me come in ahead of them! Etiquette at its best. Can't comment on the checkpoint food, but the water was excellent. And I stopped off at Todmorden Market on the way home for a pound of Creamy Lancashire...

Re: The Hebden 23rd January
Great to see everyone, all had good runs.
-
Re: The Hebden 23rd January
Aye good to randomly see a couple of forumites at your CP1 I think while we were convening for our recce of Wadsworth!

Re: The Hebden 23rd January
Thanks to the organisers from me too. Also thank you to all the runners who were so lovely to me today - it was my first race and I had no idea what to expect! Everyone was really friendly and made me (and my friends) feel very welcome and not like some dumpy novice. Cheers.
No idea if I actually met any forumites but I did see someone in a Fell Ponies vest! :)
And to top it, I didn't come last! Can't wait for the next one :D
-
Re: The Hebden 23rd January
Quite a few Fell Ponies out today in an assortment of coloured vests, good run, good food, good weather and good atmosphere. Thanks to Alan Greenwood and his helpers for a top do.
Well done Stanners, magic run mate.
Nice to meet Pilgrim and BritNick and see all the rest of you, felt bloody knackered at the start and didn't wake up till 4 miles in, not used to getting up that early since i've stopped working:rolleyes:

Re: The Hebden 23rd January
Fantastic race organisation and very kind and friendly marshalls. I've never seen so much food at a race!
Great to see lots of friendly faces and especially DJ and OG at the finish, who started 30 mins late but still carried on with the long route....now that's dedication! (just glad they didn't overtake me! :p)
A big thankyou to a lovely gentleman Steampig for his company throughout and making sure I went the right way. :)
I found the first half easy and was quite buzzing. Still finished on the wrong side of 5 hours as the second half killed! My legs were in agony! I need to get used to that kind of distance again. I probs won't be able to walk tomorrow!
Shame there were no commemorative T-shirts! :D

Good to see so many forumites. A big thank you to the organisers for letting us start so late. It was a novel experience starting just after the sweeper, but good job because she stopped us going horribly wrong right at the start:o
-
Re: The Hebden 23rd January
T' was good to see Steampig out today :) Go on Steve, you're well capable of the Fellsman mate ;)
-
Re: The Hebden 23rd January
Many many thanks to Alan for such a great day out. You organise a top day out, will have to let us knon where/when you drink!
A run with great people, followed by 'a few' ales with friends in the Shoulder followed by a lift from Clare and Nick for another few ales with friends in the Fox and Goose in Hebden.......does life get any better?
Thanks again, and respect to all friends, you're what makes life worth living!
See y'all soon.

Been down and depressed over xmas after losing my job just before, today has given me a lift and new motivation to crack on. Agree Clive, fellrunning friends are what makes life worth living, new job next month, on the up again!

Are you the lady from York with the excellent map reading skills? If so, you helped me and Colin to checkpoint 3, you were doing the half and we continued on the full. Well done anyway, you did brilliant.

That was you? I had no idea! Good to meet you and thanks for being so friendly. I actually had the wrong map (I didn't download the full route, honest...) and started up the hill after CP3...:o
Some helpful chaps with mugs of tea set me straight though
Did you have a good day?

I think I met you briefly too, we were just behind you when you set off the right way. I was in the pink and said 'come on do the long route!'
Glad you enjoyed your day. :)
If I was more sensible I'd have done the short route too!
-
Re: The Hebden 23rd January
Yes I had great time.......did you enjoy the half? You must come back and do the summer one. Are you thinking about doing some more races?

Blimey, I feel like I should have collected autographs, what with all these celebs I've met! ;)

Re: The Hebden 23rd January
Had a lovely day today. Nice to meet so many friendly people. A long run ended up being a short walk but hey ho.. there's always another day. If I'm not working next week I'll have a look at the second half and see what I missed.

Definitely - I've been putting off entering anything because I thought I'd just be unfit, slow and you'd all be terrifying ;) ... but I had an ace day. Just need to decide what to do next!

Re: The Hebden 23rd January
How about the Wadsworth half trog on the 6th Feb???? There's some places left (I'm organising it).
Have a look in your FRA calendar, there's plenty to choose from, good luck and hope to see you again.

Re: The Hebden 23rd January
I'm being blamed by Ovengloves for our late arrival on the spurious grounds that I'd left my mobile phone at work and couldn't ring him to wake him up! Well, I've just found the phone in the attic but I'm not sure it would have made much difference as it may not be working properly if this message from OG is anything to go by "Sstrjl goiog?o n way ow"

Catch up with you soon, and respect!

Re: The Hebden 23rd January
Arghhhhh, after my previous posting, just found out that some Tod Harriers are upholding the age old tradition (same with most FR clbs I'd imagine?) of living life to the full........I have to go out on the ales again, in the next 1/2 hour, and it's my local, I have no excuses, yikes!
Still
a) I might be dead tomorrow
b) It would be extremely churlish and disrespectful of me not to
Long live all you fantasic people and my top hobby.
