I have not done the race in good weather so have relied on a compass bearing from the trig to the CP which involved a lot of contour running but was a direct line at least. Did come across a few trods and then picked up a good when when vis cleared not far from the CP. Climb up CatsyCam is a bit brutal.Quote:

You aren't actually going to hole-in-the-wall the crossing point is a stile in the wall lower down the fell. the path up to St Sunday is pretty clear from grizedale tarn and brings you out onto the ridge about 0.5k fron the top where there is a checkpoint. From there either follow the main trod onward before descending into the valley to the checkpoint by the gate or, and quicker, leave the summit to the right of the main trod by a faint trod which joins up with a better path to rejoin the ridge further on. At this point you hit the main trod again and simply go straight across it to hit a very steep gully which takes you down into the valley as before.Quote:

Well, it wasn't as bad as it could have been. We started in good weather but it did get very wet, cold and windy on the top with very poor vis. We even had hail at one point. I take my hat of to the marshals; I wouldn't have wanted to be standing around in that. Top, top marks.
As for me, the less said about that the better. I was going great guns until my lack of race prep led me to missing the left turn up the last climb and the final check point. Oh well, it's all experience in the bank. I won't do that again!!! As it was, a great day out in a beautiful place. Great training for the Skyline later this month.

Carlsberg don't do fell races but if they did this would be it---! The toughestAM fell race in the book.
The people who gave up their time today were all just the best---- a special mention to Raynet and the marshals not easy for them all it was rough out there today
I was shadowed by Dave the sweeper all I can say is a nicer bloke I could not have met----one in a million top bloke thank you so much
All the preamble about how tough it was actually had be worried! It was fantastic! (A proper tough race but not a monster!) Don't know why I haven't done it before, a great day out and BIG thanks to the marshals, especially at the windier checkpoints. And smelly egg sandwiches at the finish:thumbup: See you all there again next year.
Well said! Great race. I finished officially, that's all I'm going to say just made it into the hall for the prize giving :)
Certainly was a bit rough at times, I even had to put my gloves on going up the first climb :o)
1st time at this one having wanted to do it for years, and definitely not disappointed. A great event, great organisation, and a good field to support the race. Didn't even have to walk far for the post-race river wallow!
A truly fantastic race. Thanks to all involved, thanks for the advice re route and the good company. Thank you to all organiser/volunteers too. A proper mini adventure in that weather :-D

I've been down under for a month and so out of touch! Results were long overdue when I left! Could someone at Achilli Ratti get a grip? If I can get results up next day I can see few excuses for a two month delay (other than having lost all the data)

Gosh it's a tough route - all those steep ups - to Catstycam, to Helvellyn via Swirral Edge, up to St Sunday Crag - and the final one to get back into the right valley is a real death climb. Thanks to the RO and the marshals, and also to the ladies in the kitchen. It was announced that the use of GPS devices to navigate would be banned from next year - a popular decision.
