You know what, all you nay-sayers can just.. well, you know what.. magic. How many yellow jerseys have you seen leading out their sprinter on the Champs Elysee? More elan and panache than you can shake a stick at.
You beat me to it nik:wink:
The lead out sealed the deal. Amazing, thats all that can be said
Xmas had come early, sing along
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel.......
Born is the King of British Cycling:wink:
"And now I'm going to draw the raffle tickets".
That's elan and pinache, Brit (Wiggo) style .
I would say panache is declaring before the event what is going to happen when you are up against the "might" of all the other teams and being able to deliver.
That's exactly what they did today, Wiggins to lead Cav in to the last km, then Bosen Hagen and finally Cav to the line.
That's the stuff of Ali, but delivered more clinically and with more accuracy.

respect.
that result has had me in tears for most of the evening.
sheer perfection from sky.
change of lead out team and several attacks could not stop Cav winning a ground breaking 4th win on Champs Elysees
as for Wiggo, what an awesome win. he has remained strong enough to help with lead outs and win 2 stages and second in another. very worthy winner
I think that this blog Brad wrote for the Grauniad is the best thing about how his life would fall apart if he doped. I may have an idealistic, some may say naive, view of the world, but I trust Brad implicitly.

No one has mentioned David "it was everbody else's fault but mine" Millar for a while-but, of course, he is riding for "Cav".
There are two kinds of cycling fans now: those who know outstanding riding when they see it and knew something about the sport before the TdF started; and those who only recognise a British vest.
Well you can clearly identify Millar and Cav so I know which camp you're in ;)
Apparently Wiggins can churn out 7 watts/kg in contrast to the average "handy amateur" cyclist's 4 watts/kg. Any idea what our cycling experts on the forum can produce? 4 watts/kg seems to be equivalent to a VO2 max of about 63 mls/kg/min, though the relationship is not linear.
Really, really happy for all you bike fans. This must be the pinnacle of UK sporting achievement to equal Redgraves 5 golds? Just wish McTim had laid the tennis hoodoo to rest as well!
Wiggo obviously a shoo-in for SPOTY and a K but surely Brailsford should get a K too?
Fantastic achievement.
That'd be at anaerobic threshold so, yes, what he can put out for about an hour.. when last tested my power at threshold was 390w and my weight was 79kg giving me a figure of 4.94 watts/kg.. hopefully I've gained a bit of power and weight target for my race this year at beginning of September is 76-77kg so I should be over the 5 mark.. still got some catching up to do!

Interesting http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-18921784
Cleaner riders having to measure their efforts more sensibly over the whole race responsible for a less exciting "elan and panache" devoid race? I for one don't think it was boring but I'd certainly prefer a bit less excitement than dope fuelled heroics any day.
Ok, my average is 3.96 watts/kg... is that good? Bad? Needs improving no doubt...
Mind, my last lactate treshold test was before the beginning of the season, mid March, so I expect it to have improved a bit now :)
There's so much more to 'elan and panache' that simply riding a bicycle quickly. That's like saying skiffle is just about the washboard :closed:
According to this chart that is "very good".
