Iam getting race maps for Daz and NOUN. Any more for any more?
Will anyone be passing through (or near to) Kendal on the Saturday morning? I'm looking for a lift. Thanks.
Swoop and I both have the Pete Bland race maps and I went out and bought OS 4 and OS 6 - bit of a pain that the route covers both:mad:
I have the route on a gpx file from my last recce although the line to allan(sp) crags was a bit out:o and we took a different descent from Scarfell pike BUT - if anyone wants the file winging over - let me know!
Not long now....................:D
Could you send one to me please have pm'd you.
Sorry kids tried to run last night with my dodgy achilles but struggled and the ankle was stiff this morning. There is no way I could last out for 6 hrs or so. Thought I'd be Ok after not running for a week - not sure how long it will take to clear completely.:(
Enjoy Saturday - hopefully see you all on race day.
Translation....the route over allen crags was good.
It was in the bog just before pinnacle bield we lost the track and in the end got into some rocky stuff: but I doubt we were ever more than 50m from the track, and only then for a short distance, although up and downclimbing the rocks was unpleasant - not had that problem in the race: but there are generally a lot of bodies around at that point in the race anyway.
The race descent from scaffel is just E of N (say about 10deg) , and the terrain channels you into a steep scree gully - alternative is to back track to the col below broad crag, but the descent is hardly any more pleasant.
The bit to concentrate navigation on (for non BG ers who have never done this race is the route to honister which in clag can get confusing and people go off track there every year)
I use the straight line to grey knotts ( not far from the fence , just deviating from the fence line left to stay on grass - well worth doing) then from left of grey knotts it is straight N for a good line on grass , then swing round in the lower sections to come down a tongue of grass left of the quarry. Others start dropping to the NW from brandreth, still others go down to moses trod from green gable. But be warned: dropping off brandreth, if you traverse too high you get into some horrible rocky stuff.
Still wondering whether to do this a BG rec or carneddau....
I'd have thought the quickest way is not to go as far as moses trod ;)Quote:
still others go down to moses trod from green gable
Thats the route you did emmi: but at the very end of the descent we should have swung a little further right than we did by about 200m to (say) 100m west of the quarry - So we would have hit the track further E - but it probably made no difference at all - the run down the track is very fast.
What time you setting off?
depends on my legs and transport
ok! but what time???
Hello Peeps
There'll be about 10 of us in Hikers Bar t' morra neet.
We'll be the noisy but well behaved lot pretending to look at maps.
If you're in there come and say hello, we will also be out and about on Sat. doing similar recces and routes.

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/de...map=on#maphere
part of the lakes I have not really visited
Cheers
It's about 10-15 minutes walk.
Not 100% sure if Chapel House is the camp site on the road bend at approx.grid ref.257140.
If it is the one, its about 9 (brisk)minutes from pub!!
We will hopefully be arriving at same site at around 8.30ish and the last orders for food at Scafell Hotel are 9.00pm.
If the site is full we will head to Stonethwaite 1k further down and eat pot noodles
gutted....
but having run a bit tonight I have decided that Im giving saturday a miss... I 'm crazy but not that crazy!! :o
Just not ready to go up great gable so soon after my fall!!!:(
Have fun all x
I'll see you all there.
Bad luck Moo, sensible one though. I'm in for definate - what time is everyone meeting? re:Carpark - would it be best to use one just after pub, space for about 30 cars?
Who's doing the navigating? Step forward all those who were on the FRA navigation course please.....:D
Urm how can I put this..............
Im gonna have to drop out people, no Im not injured.
I arrived at the two lads tonight and my car started making a horrible clanging noises. This continued as I struggled to find a parking space. I got out eventually after parking on a side street. The whole street was covered in oil. I then walked down the hill past the leisure centre to register for the race, there was river of the stuff flowing down the hill. Seems my power steering has cracked up. Never seen so much oil or steering fluid or whatever.
Anyway, I need my car to get to work all week next week, so my weekend will probably be better spent trying to get it fixed and sorted on saturday day. Rather than going to the lakes and hoping to find a nice enough mechanic to fix it sunday.
God I dont trust mechanics,if you dont know nothing about cars. Your wallet is totally in there hands
Sorry folks, and good luck with the reccie.
Oh and just for the record, I had bad run at the race tonight, everyone seems to pass me on the climbs and I seem to make it up on the flats and descents. Uhm must be a fitness thing I think.
Cheers
Jamie
