    Re: Borrowdale 07

Iam getting race maps for Daz and NOUN. Any more for any more?

Will anyone be passing through (or near to) Kendal on the Saturday morning? I'm looking for a lift. Thanks.

Swoop and I both have the Pete Bland race maps and I went out and bought OS 4 and OS 6 - bit of a pain that the route covers both

I have the route on a gpx file from my last recce although the line to allan(sp) crags was a bit out and we took a different descent from Scarfell pike BUT - if anyone wants the file winging over - let me know!

    Not long now....................

    Thumbs up Re: Borrowdale 07

Sorry kids tried to run last night with my dodgy achilles but struggled and the ankle was stiff this morning. There is no way I could last out for 6 hrs or so. Thought I'd be Ok after not running for a week - not sure how long it will take to clear completely.

Enjoy Saturday - hopefully see you all on race day.

Translation....the route over allen crags was good.

It was in the bog just before pinnacle bield we lost the track and in the end got into some rocky stuff: but I doubt we were ever more than 50m from the track, and only then for a short distance, although up and downclimbing the rocks was unpleasant - not had that problem in the race: but there are generally a lot of bodies around at that point in the race anyway.

The race descent from scaffel is just E of N (say about 10deg) , and the terrain channels you into a steep scree gully - alternative is to back track to the col below broad crag, but the descent is hardly any more pleasant.

The bit to concentrate navigation on (for non BG ers who have never done this race is the route to honister which in clag can get confusing and people go off track there every year)

I use the straight line to grey knotts ( not far from the fence , just deviating from the fence line left to stay on grass - well worth doing) then from left of grey knotts it is straight N for a good line on grass , then swing round in the lower sections to come down a tongue of grass left of the quarry. Others start dropping to the NW from brandreth, still others go down to moses trod from green gable. But be warned: dropping off brandreth, if you traverse too high you get into some horrible rocky stuff.

Still wondering whether to do this a BG rec or carneddau....

I'd have thought the quickest way is not to go as far as moses trod

Mike - I take it this is the line we took

Think you should come saturday to make sure we don't get lost off Dalehead again
