Is your map the BMC Harvey map? (Shows checkpoint 6 (top of Gt. Coum).)
Check with the organisers but possibly just a photocopy of the next section would be sufficient (eg. from OL2).
From CP6 (701835) head ~330 to 691851 and follow track to Dent.

I have ordered the West map - that covers the bit I have missing which is also the section you describe. As I can't check the map until it arrives, do you know whether any of this section is out of bounds?
Thanks
Stef
couple of questions if someone can help;
-coming off whernside, which is route is used, straight down (w) to the road or come back on yourself and make way across?
-am i right in thinking the hardest navigating, i know this may be dependent where you are (and nightime aside) is the harder part getting from redshaw to cray? looking at map theres less, if any at points tracks/lines to follow.
donlarko, abbreviation ST is this stile? dave
Once you have reached Whernside CP you need to retrace your steps and follow the ridge down for around a mile to the stile at 725789 before heading down High Brown Hill Pasture to Kingsdale Beck & the CP at Yordas Cave.
Redshaw to Snaizeholme CP is quite straight-forward (they are very close to each other), although in the dark a few people do tend to take strange routes up to Dodd Fell. The worst / most navigational errors seem to occur between Fleet Moss and Cray.
Just a warning Egor the Stile off whernside isn't always there so use the 'Kink' in the wall just short of the Stile as a target point. If the stile isn't visible within 100m Climb over at that point. Lots of people ran down the wall line until they got to the stile a 2-3 years ago and it wasn't there:eek: they ended up a mile or so further down the ridge.
Fleet moss is THE place to get to before dark and as Anorak say's is the trouble spot on the whole route. Worth going down on one knee for a moments prayer before entering. You've pretty much got it in the bag once you get to Cray
I sent off my entry for this years fellsman about 3 weeks ago but had nothing back from them. Cheque has been cashed. So i'm guessing i'm in!
Just wondering how long it took for the handbook and number to arrive?
I agree Fleet Moss - Middle Tongue - Cray definitely the hardest part of the whole route - mentally, phisically and 'navigationally' - well worth a look if you've not done it before.
The only other part that can be trickey in bad vis is over and off Gt Whernside - at this point most normal humans are pretty wrecked, it's dark and there's no distinct track off the summit. You certainly need a bearing off the checkpoint that takes you on to the fence line.
Sent my entry off 3 weeks ago as well ,cheque's not been cashed and no reply to an e-mail enquiry to the organisers !
Are you doing a lap this year N&G ?
If it's misty watch your line from Gt Coum to the "Flintergill " checkpoint
Going to see how I feel over 30 miles tomorrow and then decide... i.e. probably 'yes' as I intend to enjoy myself tomorrow:) (even if the weather forecast is correct).
Cheers mate... just feeling a bit pissed off because I can't get the pictures off my camera any more:mad:
Got a few from the half tour to come off and space for only 3 high res ones left.:(
[Took the kids to the half tour and ended up on the video:rolleyes: (~1:49)]
I laminated them and just kept them in my pocket as a quick reference, it helps especially 15 hours in when you are tired !!! If you would like an excel copy I can email you. Just PM me your address.
Fellsman entered :D
The HPM last weekend convinced me it'll be a doddle ;)
See you there then Stolly, good effort
Is the reccee still on for the 5th April?
I thought it was Saturday 4th. We will soon need to finalise start and finish points, meeting times and who's coming. I'll try to have a look by the weekend.
Hi, yes it was the Saturday. I had 5/6 in my head as the dates of the weekend for no good reason!
I've just checked the map and route. Fleet Moss to the finish is 25 miles. Bearing in mind the terrain, time spent on route optimisations, taking it all in and possible diversions to avoid on-the-day special permission access areas, it could take 8 hours. What do others think?
Car shuttling between Threshfield and Fleet Moss would be straightforward even if it is a bit time consuming. We would need to meet at Threshfield to leave by 8am in up to half the cars for Fleet Moss (the outlook point on the road map and car parking area on the OS map).
We're talking Saturday 4th April. Would anyone prefer to meet earlier for an earlier start? Any other thoughts? Who is definitely going? So far I make it:

Britnick - count me in for this one. It's still & will remain in the diary for the 4th April. I'm OK with any start time (well within reason LOL!).
Cheers - Mark..
Bugger, bugger, bugger - I wish I'd known sooner you were doing this. I threw my hat into the fellsman ring kind of late, still haven't received my 'manual' and have pretty much zero idea of the lay of the land between Fleet Moss and Buckden Pike. Unfortunately I've agreed to run round the 3 peaks on 5th April with two friends running that race for the first time so can't make 4th April :(
On a seperate issue is it usual to get the manual so late? I love maps and I'd very much like to be studying the potential route from the checkpoint grid references. Can anyone give the grid references while I wait?
I'll be there on the 4th, coming from Haworth so happy to pick anyone one up route, and am also planning to do a loop tomorrow looking at Buckden and Gt whernside if any one else is interested

Sorry for any omissions last night. I was rather tired and a bit of a zombie. Here's an updated list:

Please note correction to Redshaw grid ref!:o
correct ref is 797843
Thanks for the grid refs Stolly and Pilgrim.
Hi Stef F, unless anyone else suggests different, we would park and meet in the lane by the school in Threshfield and drive some cars up the road to the Fleet Moss checkpoint.
Hi
I've booked a pitch on a campsite in Threshfield. I'll be travelling at lunch time on Friday so will have no access to the internet from then. Can I exchange phone numbers in case I can't find the meeting place or the arrangements change after I leave?
I'm assuming it's still 8am from the lane by the school (only one school in Threshfield?). I don't mind if you want to make it earlier.
Stef
Sorry only realised last night that it is the 4th April this weekend, unfortunately I'm going to be working but I'll see you all on the event.
Looking foward to it - is the plan to meet / leave the cars at Threshfield or Yanbury - I would go for the latter unless anyone fancies a 2-3 mile downhill run on the road at the end
I will aim to get there for 07:30 or shortly after. We need to be leaving for Fleet Moss by 08:00.
Saz, it may be best to stick with meeting at the finish location by the school. It will be easier to find for those not used to the area and it should not take us too long to jog the final bit down the roads. We can do some window shopping as we descend through the village, dodging the amblers. ;)
Sorry you can't make the recce Donkarlo. See you in May for the real thing
