Some of us may struggle to get to the start line - have been suffering with a bad back these last 2.5 weeks due to something to do with short hamstrings. Walking like a 90 year old & no idea when I'll be able to run. Will still be there on the day tho' - will be good to see you MG.

Oh what a shame Manhar!
Have you got some special stretches to do? Hope it sorts itself out in time for you to take part. If not may see you in the beer tent afterwards! :p
Take care and best of luck over the next few weeks x

Could be arranged. I will be plodding round for enjoyment rather than speed, saving myself for keeping up with Mrs. Crumblydown on the Old Counties Tops, that'll be a tough day out and reet:w00t:

Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
Sorry to hear that you are crock Manhar. Looks like I won't now be in need of your kind offer of a lift to Shaw but thanks anyway.
Not exactly looking forward to this after Edale Skyline where I clocked up the same time as last tyear but was no where near as comfortable. Fighting cramp after Brown Knoll - does'nt bode well for the steep hell of Wearnside.
Anyone else on hear also stupid enough to be also doing Fred (the Dread) Whitton the following week?
-
Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
No worries Ginge - will still be there on the day running or not to soak up the atmosphere & share your pain / elation.

You injured Manhar? If so sorry to hear that, be good to see you at some point during the pain/elation mate.

Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
Nothing too serious Merry - it's just that time may not be on my side - 22 days 14 hrs 6 mins 10 seconds , no make that.... you get the drift, to be in any shape fitness wise to be out for up to 5hrs or more.

Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
The entry list is out! We have our numbers! :w00t:
999 runners....only 168 ladies!
16 days to go!
(nice to see Al Fowler on the list! :))
Hope you make it Manhar! :)
-
Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
Yep, getting closer now (equal parts nerves and excitement). I'm no. 275 by the look of things.

See you en-route Manhar if you dont make it. I spent race day last year in hospital with a blood clot in my leg,so it will be good to make it to the start line this time. I'd be happy with 4hrs 45. ( race number is 3 )

Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
I'm no. 890. I had the last number last time and thought it was an omen I would be last! ha ha! I wasn't!
Last time I did this was pre baby in 2008 and I was worried I would even get to the cut offs in time...I did!
This time I am hoping to knock a few minutes off every section and get in between say4.30-4.45.
(In my dreams I would love a 4 hourer! lol lol lol!!! A girl's gotta dream! :D)
-
Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
Due to house move, I'm not getting in nearly enough training ! Might struggle.

Be optimistic and go for it MG, my best and only time was 4h 32m in 2009, be surprised if i get near that, did 36 miles on saturday and got stronger towards the end, that's all i've been doing this year though, long, slow distance and climbing. It's all training for the Old Counties Tops and ultimately the Lakeland 50.
See you there marra;)

Well at the end of the day I just want to finish it unscathed and untimedout! :closed:
I think you will surprise yourself and I hope I do too!

Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
I just almost had a heart attack when I thought I wasn't in then realised I was looking at the men's list! I'm 963, only one from my club (male or female)! Am really looking forward to it but also nervous as hell.

Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
Thanks MG, so long as I don't go down in a bog!:o
People have asked me what time I expect to do but I've no idea at all. I have recced it (see above comment) but went really slowly and stopped for snacks etc so it was no indicator. I was hoping to just meet the cut offs and get round (which I think I'll do so long as I don't get injured or something).

Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
I'm in it for the occasion. Partial slipped disc last year at end of March so had to pull out and didn't get back "running" until July when I lost patience and did the Tockholes race. I'd say that the first time I felt I was running right was the XC at Townley Park in January so I thought then that I could make it.
Got on the waiting list and got a place and so far health is holding up.
4:39 in 2008 and 4:45 in 2009 so under 5 and I'll be happy.
My approach has differed though with my training being 1 long run at weekend and just ticking over mid week - no speed work at all.
My tactic will be to try and hold my self back on PYG and the run to Ribblehead. Been 1:46 at RH both times and I'm looking to try for low - mid 1:50s so I've still got some life in my legs for Whernside.
Lost stacks on Whernside both times which I think is due to tackling PYG like it's Rivington Pike :D

Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
Did anyone else see the advertisement in the metro newspaper yesterday? Was advertising the 3 peaks, quite surprised at that.
-
Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
Looks like there'll be a gang of us around the 4:30-4:45 area. I'm also going for a steadier start after getting to Ribblehead too quickly last year and then rapidly working my way backwards through the field.
-
Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
Starting to get excited again about this. Whatever the critics say, this is always a very special race for me.
4:22 in 2008. Last year I was up Pen-y-ghent in virtually the same time as the year before but then the wheels fell off. I couldn't deal with the heat and came in at 4:43. I would love to do 4:15 this time but a lot depends on the conditions on the day.

Will be good to see you MG, Leeds Rhino - Back running so will have to see how this weekends training runs progresses. Hopefully work on the principle that the race will be a long training run & I know I will be on my feet for up to 5 hrs - so if any 4:45 kids want an amble your more than welcome to join me :)

Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
going to run the Kentmere horseshoe course on Fri , a bit more 3P training.:)

Was it you who beat me by 0.06 of a second? Or did I beat you by 0.02? :)

Ah. Got my years mixed up. It was 2009 that I was 4:22:51.
I prefer to forget about 2008, had to retire after Pen-Y-Ghent

Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
Just received the 2008 race on DVD :)...thought it would make a nice keepsake and to remind me what I've got to do in a few weeks! :w00t:

Re: Three Peaks Fell Race
I got that as well MG, unfortunately it shows more of the climbs and not much descending (which would be my favourite bits to watch). That said it's still a good DVD

Ahh I remember coming off PYG and loads of people passing me...I have to confess I'm a right girl on the downhills! :o
My fave bit is the climb upto Ingleborough where I usually pass people again!
Looking forward to watching it and someone said I'm on it for about a millisecond at the start! :)
