"Yers bonnier than a Herdwick ewe, Emmi"
"Thanks Joss, that's as good as owt"
Nice to see two good people meet on the fells:cool:

Hi that Holmfirth Lady was me - (just joined the forum but not quite sure how to use it - properly yet!) - glad to be of help and glad you finished. Like I said, someone did the same for me on Three Shires last year when I was adament I was going to give up, so it's good to be able to do the same for someone else - that's what it's all about when you're at the back!
And sorry we didn't get exactly the same time at the end (although we tried!).
My first time doing a super long race and although I did it very, very slowly, I loved it. Thanks to all the organisers, I thought it was a brilliant day - and sitting in the pub afterwards and listening to the music was an added bonus!
Joss can think of TWO good reasons for carrying on fellrunning
Joss eyes up replacement kneecaps: "There's a plenty a padding in them fellas"
Class pic Emmi.....The Master talked me into accompanying him around Wasdale a few years ago on the promise of a certificate signed by Joss....i never received such a certificate but he did hand me a cup of water.....and my hero status was thus born...he's spliffingly cool
anyone take any pics of the race then (apart from the above)?
I've been told i'm in one on the dark peak website as theres an album on there...
Some nice pics there:)

More Duddon Pic here, although admittedly most of us Preston lot but I took the others on route so there are some nice scenic ones!!

Well done emmilou on a super set of pics. I got my photo taken with Joss twice at Wasdale last year - first at Greendale Bridge:), then at the finish. They are somewhere in the DPFR archive now. Managed to take a few at Duddon, but lost the will to do anything after Dow.:(. I'll be struggling round Wasdale again with camera - so please remember to say cheese:D
there's a thread in the Recce section, but surely we need a proper race thread? http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/forum/...ink_smiley.gif
I'll start things rolling with a proper race-related question, prompted by reading the entry form:
what's an āeā card when it's at home?
haven't read the info but e card to orienteers is the Si unit/ dibber that you use to prove you have visited a control. Used by some Champs races and MMs. Most fell runners won't own one so you hire on day or get one in with the entry fee
We are away fro half term so it may be the first time I miss Duddon for some years- shame, I like it lots
what's an “e” card when it's at home?[/QUOTE]
They have definately used SI dibbers the last 2 times i've done Duddon....Brilliant race. Its worth camping over as well and heading to the Newfield Inn after.
I've used SI dibbers before - never heard em called e-cards though
not sure if I'll be family camping at Turner Hall, or "smash-n-grab"ing it on the day, but I'll deffo be there...
Anyone going up on the friday?
The time is here once again for the years heat wave to hit the Duddon Valley.
For me this will be the first race of the year, myself and Mrs Amex (who after a year of fell running will see how she has improved??????) last years time 3.11 this year ??
We aim to run the Short Duddon.
Hope to see all your happy smiling faces in the best valley the lakes.
Thread Duplicated please ignore and go to Daz the slug's fine thread
Sorry had not seen this thread Daz pls ignore my thread about same, i am going Sat with Alizon her first fell race last year, she is aiming to beat her time i will trot out with her on short, then staying in Keswick i think for beer, as i have not had one for 6 weeks!
I was going to, but now I can't. Having seen the tremendous and irresistable selection of ales at the Newfield, it's probably just as well! It does mean, though, that I'll have to do my usual begging routine:
Would I be able to chuck my bike gear in the boot of someone's car on the day? There's a drink + bar snacks in it for ya!
Not so sure what my plans are now Morgan,
I'm doing the LAMM in a fortnight now (eek) and seemingly my legs are still a bit frayed, not for the want of trying mind! I'd intended on helping a PB this weekend but think it's beyond my capabilities at the moment but may pop up and do the Duddon short? Never enough time....
Amex - be good to see you/Alizon - Fell Ponies vests for both of you no doubt?;)
Long for me though - oh yes... (tries to sound confident...)
and 6 WEEKS! - WHY?
TT - you can chuck your stuff in my car no probs - I'll even try to remember spare key, cos you'll probably be back before me :D
I'm doing the long and will also be in Keswick in't evening
This will be my fourth year doing this one and still not sorted out the best way between White Pike and Caw - to go over or to the right of the Pikes? Any top tips appreciated.
Would like to do the long or short, all depends on the weather for me as I have the Old Man of Coniston Tri on Sunday and so would like to bike over from the Black Bull Inn to do this on the Saturday.
The jury is out, weather, please be good!
Never done Duddon before so just going to do the short one - final race before I head for the Pyrenees so don't want to overdo anything now. Plan to camp at Turner Hall Farm Sat night and may walk the long route on Sunday to see if I fancy it next year.
Anyone else staying over on Saturday? Sounds like the Newfield Inn has a promising range of beverages.
Oven Gloves - am I right in think I'd walk a million miles for one of his goals?
Managed to pick up a strained achilles in the last week after some hard training.
After missing out on the three peaks there's no way I'm not starting Duddon, but I may be withdrawing after the first descent.
B*****ks.
We'll be at Turner Hall and the Newfields anyway rain or shine.
Doing this one and all the other classic races this year befor knees, legs or whatever packs in.
sorry to hear that ZHR - hope you are OK on the day
the only thing I did last weekend was a flat tarmac 5 Mile race
and I am now wrapped up in cotton wool
the only thing I'm worried about now is picking up the stomach bug that has recently struck down Lady Slugge
I'll be there for my first big run in the Lakes since 1987. Getting nervous already in anticipation.
Had a plan to run all six too, but looks like could be away in September for Three Shires, and a false start this Saturday maybe anyway ...
Ta mate, wish I'd done that too. Hill reps on Saturday and it came out ok so thought I was in the clear-ish. Circuit training Tue night, it hasn't respond quite so well ... grrr.
