Ifs, your directions for the shortcut were spot on! when I hit the land marks you mentioned before the race I could not have gone wrong! Thanks. Noticed I would have got 3rd male over 40 last year with this years time (8th over 40 this year) so I think it must have been a strong field all round.

Excellent outing: good to meet up with both of you (sbrt & Johnnyb1). Hardly wet anywhere, apart from the little soggy meadow. A pleasant little scamper: I enjoyed the views. Fell races are always good for me psychologically: because I'm slow uphill I spend the 2nd half of the race passing people. Always feels good, especially when I'm knackered. And I didn't fall over once - maybe I wasn't trying hard enough.
Many thanks to all who made the Ras y Gader/Cader Idris race happen. You did us proud again:thumbup:

Anyone know if a waterproofed colour copy of the race map on the RO website is sufficient to pass kit check or is an OS/Harvey map required?

Yeah that should be fine.. they never check the map anyway... well what the actual map is, I've done plenty of races with any old map thrown in..
The route is flagged and a big field.. its a mountain race more than a fell race, some slight route choice but you can always just stay on the major highway.. great race.

I know this has been asked before but - fell or road shoes? (Walsh PBs or Adidas Adios?) Don't know how wet it is underfoot at the moment. I'm erring towards fell shoes at the moment.
I'm planning on wearing More Mile Cheviot 2s. There seems to be quite a lot of hard surface (road, slabs, stony path) so a bit of cushioning will be welcome but grip also probably needed as well so they should be ideal.Quote:

It was very dry up there a week ago and last weekend's rain should have dried off nicely for Saturday ~ a pity I'm skipping it this year ;) The bit round the lake can be muddy too.
Road shoes are certainly possible on Cader, but will slow you down in a number of places in the race, especially if you know the off-path grassy lines. Also a lot of the stony path sections are trickier than Snowdon.
I would favour some well worn X-Talons or similar.
Yeah I've done it twice and always fell shoes, x-talons were great. The road is a good 3-4 miles in total but the fell is fell like enough that some grip helps, depends how dry though.Quote:

What a fantastic day for Ras y Gader yesterday. Hot and dry and my new Scott RC's were perfect for the job. A great atmosphere in the town pre and post race. Just scraped into the top 25% which was pleasing as it was a WFRA championship race. Probably could have done a bit better if I had not done a recce to just below the summit on Friday night!
Also managed to buy a cracking Lowe Alpine bum bag for £20 from the local outdoor shop opposite the start.If you find yourself in Dolgellau call in as this shop has some great gear at good prices. Isn't it strange how you can find great bits of kit when you are least expecting it! Also good to support small rural shops without whom you would be rogered if you turned up for a race having forgotten something and the likes of Wiggle would be as much use as a GPS with a flat battery!
Anybody know when entries open? Web site says early January
6th Jan at 12:00 noon according to the Faceache page. Hopefully it won't sell out as fast as it did last year when it was a champs race!Quote:

Bloody hell! that went quick. Always fancied this race, but never got round to it. Knew it sold out quickly, so went for a short Sunday walk with my wife - back at 2.00pm and thought I better get on with it. Just got in as 321 out of a possible 325.
I've never done this race; like the Snowdon Race, it goes up a wonderful mountain by the least inspiring route. Now, if there was a race up the Minffordd path . . . .
Totally agree with you there. Not the most inspiring way up but the only race route and its been on my list of races to do for a long time. Going to make 2019 a year of new things and not the same old, same old...Quote:
