I know no-one's said they're coming on this, but given that sometimes people just turn up, I'd better post that plans have changed. Can't do early morning start, but will be doing this after lunch now.
Possibly 1400. Will hopefully be able to confirm later.
Would have loved this and right up my street a favourite MTB spot of mine from Worsthorne and up the Gorple Rd. to the reservoirs then joining the Mary Towneley Loop. Wonderful if you can catch first light and popular with landscape photographers early doors.
Plotted the route in OS 25,000; looked interesting. Printed out a few copies for the run and when asked by Mrs Chubbs as to what they were for, quite innocently explained, to which she smiled and replied "THIS SUNDAY; absolutely fine."
Now I'am not sure if it was the tone in her voice or the way she was clutching the bread knife but I think it best all round if I give this a miss, so to run another day. :o
Note to self; it is not a good idea to refer to the other half as Mrs Chubbs. :(
:D Probably for the best: I'm going armed with a home-made map, which, after the last time we hit these parts together, wouldn't fill you with much confidence!;)
Well, I didn't get lost: my map was genius!:D Will scan it at some point for you to marvel at.;)
However decision to go off piste was a disaster: had a long slog up through knee high heather and got to a 'bridleway' which was nothing of the sort. Just tussocky crap with a patchy line of bog to follow. As well as slowing me down (when I cut it short I'd done 7mi in 2hrs! That was HPM pace!), it also served to aggravate my knee (another reason I only did the southern half of the loop). So not great.
Started off on proper paths and when I could run, it was great. -I also mapped Howarth Hobble and saw the lines this took in the area, which after Sunday I know to be good too.
I won't give up. Just need to do a bit more exploring. Back to the ol' drawing board...
Quite possibly, what do you think? (If you can see it)

At last year's Torver show run there was talk of someone who turned up with a hand drawn map, was that you? :D
Nah, was where the map got crumpled in me pocket and wouldn't lie flat on the scanner:rolleyes:
SS. Just wondering how you initially plan your routes. Map and pencil then map-my-run or another method?
Sorry to hear about your ITB niggles :(. Hope it sorts itself out quickly enough.
Planned this route because I had a nice section in mind that I wanted to run (just from having seen it from my car, which in the end I didn't even make it round to:rolleyes:), then just got on Streetmap.co.uk to see what other hills/landmarks there were around, and how they were connected. After sseeing a loop emerge, I then zoomed in to 1:25,000 level OS view and copied the main features of the map, marked bearings, etc. I did then Mapmyrun it to calculate distance, etc.
Coming soon to a Pendle near you...?
First time out in 3.5wks on Monday: 4 and a bit miles @ 7.30min/mi. Knee okay.
Watch this space.
Not done 'owt since this run. Knee feeling weird moving about normally during week. Eased off in last few days so may attempt a small, slow run this weekend. Ideally I'd love to be back in time for Pendle Cloughs. (And some ace CTJM recces!:D)
Mine is always worst mooching around work and things too Gary. I spent the weekend walking around Budapest in smart trainers which made it ache, then i accidentally went for a 10.8m run on monday afternoon. I thought i knew the route to be circa 6ish but should have checked beforehand, now it feels like i've been hit in the side of the knee with a hammer and i'm wondering whether to volunteer for marshalling at next week's Lothersdale (any use Brett?) and bike it for a few weeks to try and retain some fitness. A costly moment of carelessness which i'll not repeat. Luckily i've got physio this saturday so plenty of massage will be called for and it'll be paid for with pain i think!
Gentle Pendle run tomorrow. Barley car park? 8am?
Repeating this hill session:

Saturday, 8am, Barley car park if you're 'avin' it. Holla.
Will be avin it on Pendle at some point this weekend mate if your around?
Was idly thinking about a hill session on Sunday am, 'bout 8ish from Barley if you want. (Though will have to check with the missus first!) 7mi 2,400ft? Though I do warn you I've not been training regularly on th'ills in recent months and this was going to be a first time back out there, so I will be quite slow.
Would be good to get out there with you again though. :)
Aye sounds good mate, just need to double check for sunday morning, but pretty sure I can make it! :)
One time SS I will shock you and say "count me in!" :D
But not this time :sneaky:
Hey mate, hope you had a good run today, was at a family 21st party over in Blackpool, and ended up getting roped into some drinking games which ended at 3am, whoops! Was supposed to come home last night, but only just returned!
Will be back a few weekends in August though, so we'll rearrange! :)
8am, Sunday, Barley car park, 7.5mi hill sesh up Pendle if you want it?
No takers then?
Hey SS, would love to but cant make it weekends, if it were a weekday I can work around that if you let me know a preferred day, be good to meet you and get out while you are still getting fit ,else you'll be too strong for me.....
New job means weekdays is a struggle, but I'll let you know if I get the chance. Don't worry about me being too strong for ya: never gonna happen! Besides, on social runs, I always wait. ;)
8am, Sunday, Barley car park, 7.5mi hill sesh up Pendle if you want it?
Change of plan: tomorrow's run postponed. Obviously, feel free to rock up and go round yourself! ;)
Looking to do 2nd half of FTOP this Sunday: 0800 Barley car park.
This is provisional, as I don't yet know plans for the weekend (I know my folks are up, but not when they're going...Saturday, I think). I'll let y'all know if owt changes.
Otherwise, be there or be square! ;)
Bah! Parents leaving Sun morning, so no CTJM this week. Might just have to slip out when I can. To all potential FTOPers, I'll no doubt be doing various bits of FTOP route in the coming wkends, so watch this space if you wanna come along.:)
