(by the way, as balance, I think Pressley is doing a cracking job there in difficult circumstances, has got them playing some lovely football and is definitely a manager for bigger and better places at some point)

It is slightly self-fulfilling because clubs of their stature attract investment. But there are still 5 or so teams in the world who have that stature and legendary status. As much as I dislike Liverpool and they've had 20 years of limited success they are still a big club. Likewise United in the 80's... or now.. :-)

There were certainly some instances when that Leeds team were victims of decisions that went beyond just not getting the nub of the green. The most notorious was the 1973 Cup Winners Cup Final in Salonika against AC Milan. The referee spent the whole match giving dodgy decisions in favour of Milan. At the end of the match the referee and Italians were jeered off the pitch by the Greek crowd, who knew Leeds had been cheated. One match where there were accusations of bribery was Leeds' final game of the 1971/72 season where they only needed a draw at Wolves to take the title and double. The Football League made Leeds play two days after the FA Cup final and they duly lost 2-0, the title going to Cloughie's Derby County who were already holidaying in Majorca. Like I say, whoever was doing the match rigging must have been really crap at it!
What Leeds could have done with at the time was somebody like your old manager Fergie, a past master at bullying and intimidating referees to try and get results.
