Question about Leg 3 though (as I'm doing this one) - obviously the route can't be given in advance as the is the Nav leg, but does anyone know what sort of distance & climb is involved in this leg ?
it's normally a bit shorter than to leg 2
Website says:
"Pairs Navigation (est. win time 65 mins)"
So about 7miles, 2000ft and TERRAIN!
Thanks ba-ba, that's helpful. Winner's times over Nav courses can vary quite a lot in distance terms from those for straight Fell-run courses, so I wan't quite sure what to make of it.Quote:

As said, times wise the two paired legs tend to be similar.. so as the nav leg requires nav and thinking time you'll do slightly less.. but you can also have quite big variations due to route choices..Quote:

A similar map will be used but, being at 1:25,000 scale means there are limits to the level of detail that can be portrayed - e.g. you can't show every animal path. Best advice is to be prepared to exercise both map skills and the sort of judgement that comes with hill nav experience.Quote:

Visited the event field today to supervise some grass cutting. The slope to/from the change-over is very greasy. We don't have a vast field like last year at Kettlewell so be prepared to make the best of things. But we are close to Town and its creature comforts.
Sale Harriers are ready, however we're not looking forward to the 6.45am start for most of us.
Hopefully the low cloud will stay away too.

Great to see lots of friends old and new today and amazed at the buzzing Pennine Vests swarming over the hills - even Andy Howie wore something above his shorts - I ran the first leg and was very impressed with the starter's comments re Daz H - a very moving moment before we got going.

Aye, top day out. Ran leg 2 and it was tough. Fast for the first two thirds with some brutal climbs towards the end. Thanks very much to all at Mercia and everyone else involved in the organisation today.
