Re: Overweight Confessions
Pigged out big time on breakfast this morning 5 rashers of bacon 4 eggs 4 slices buttered toast and fried mushrooms on top. I can almost feel my coronary arteries slamming shut! In my pathetic defence I will be going for a lunchtime run and won't be having any lunch after all this protein anyway.

Re: Overweight Confessions
I've just been looking at the list and there are around 30 runners (and one cat) on our corpulent roll call of shame. I'd guessed initially that we have perhaps 10 stone of lard to get rid of between us but at an average of say 7 lb per runner we have more like 15 stone of excess blubber :o
On a lighter note (groan) I refused cheesy chips last night after our head-torcher. I did drink beer but declining the cheesy chips is possibly my proudest moment in athletics

I'm aiming to gradually (probably very gradually) lose 18 pounds, so add 11 pounds to the aggregate unwanted tonnage.
On a positive note I went to circuits again last night and, unlike last week where the top half of my body seized up and I needed help putting on and taking off my jacket for 3 days, I coped pretty darn exceedingly well this time. I still went full on at it but the muscle ravaging of last week seems to have kick started my 'body beautiful' of old and I fully expect my six pack back any time now :)
-
Re: Overweight Confessions
I'm not trying to lose weight either, I have been gradually losing a bit purely as a by product of consistent training (and more recently being ill). I wouldn't want otherwise trim healthy people to begin obsessing about weight when there's enough of that goes on in the media these days anyway.
-
Re: Overweight Confessions
I don't think anyone is obsessing about their weight Rob, (or at least I hope they're not) and after all we're all fellrunners. By definition we're going to be amongst the fittest folk around and all bar the top two or three on the list are below thirteen stone, which is hardly unhealthily massive. It's just that a few of us want to lose a few pounds that's all
-

That was my point really, but I wasn't meaning to dig. Just seems odd to see people that aren't really that heavy trying to lose weight. I would have thought fellrunners would be the least likely people to worry about their weight that's all. I know my nearest and dearest have more concerns over my sanity than my weight :D

Also quite clear, in my case, that I am definitely heavier than this time last year and I can tell the difference carting those 3 bags of sugar up every dam hill I attempt to run up. So my goal is to lose that extra, unnecessary poundage. Having a public weigh in is a bit of fun, but it does help keep my snout of the biscuit barrel. But not obssessive, oh no, absolutely not (cat isn't either).

the 2 bits in bold are 2 completely different things
I'm not "worried" about my weight, I'm just going to lose some so as to help improve my running
Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot is 6'3" and weighs 11st - if he weighed 13st, I highly doubt he'd manage to clock a 2:07 marathon
-
Re: Overweight Confessions
I think BMI works reasonably well as to what is a healthy weight - i.e., over 25 is generally unhealthy. I know when I've strayed over 25, I have felt overweight.

Splitting hairs really, it was merely an observation. I'm not trying to pick a fight with anyone.

All I can say is, it's a good job I haven't added my name to the list or it would be a bit more than 15 stone collectively :o

Not forgetting a lot of the comments are tongue in cheek, so despite the fact a few pounds want shifting here and there, I doubt there's anything unhealthy going on.

What do lbs mean? Valuable race seconds!

Aye, for most people, but let's not forget that there's a few professional sports folks out there, heavyweight boxers, rugby players nearer the pointy end of the scrum, who's BMI would make them overweight, but are in actual fact carrying all their bulk in muscle and are totally fine!
If it helps redress the balance, I am currently below my goal weight, and have a few pounds to put on!;)

You need to start a thread for the under weight skinnys SS.
You might get all the top runners on your thread.

Re: Overweight Confessions
When I was a nipper (20s), I had as much meat on me as a butcher's pencil. No need to join a weight loss thread. 20 years later I have a bit of timber on the frame. If you are skinny, or under weight, join a 'I need lard' thread. I bet there are plenty that could do with a pie or two who would be happy to provide weight gaining tips.

About time you started up that personal training thread again 'eathens. You're not going to lose two stone by skipping the odd pie or Mars bar here and there ;)

I think you're right. Had achilles tendonosis since May so not been able to run; just started again on xmas eve. Did 5 miles tonight in just outside 7 min miling so hopefully heading in the right direction.
Eaten like a pig since the start of the year because my brother died just before NYE and been busy arranging things like the funeral, so grabbing takeaways left, right and centre. Also, it's my 30th birthday tomorrow so my New Years Resolutions begin on Monday.
70kg by the end of the year.

Very sorry to hear that, you have my sympathy. My mother died a few years back around this time of year (I deliberately didn't remember the date) when I was in my early twenties so it's always a sad time anyway for me. Hope you get things sorted out as best as you can

I think also a lot of people try to dismiss it cos they don't like the answer it gives them. As we've become chunkier as a society, the perception of 'overweight' has changed - people are a lot less inclined to think of themselves overweight because growing levels of obesity distort the picture, they don't look so bad compared to the top end. The median has changed - and BMI is a bit of a control measure.
Although mine's around 23-24 and 50 years ago I'd probably have been deemed 'thickset'.

Really sorry to hear about your brother TheHeathens http://forum.fellrunner.org.uk/images/icons/icon9.png That is terrible news.
SS, I think you should be forced to eat cake til you are back over your target weight as a punishment  ..... No wait, that's not right.....
I can't shift another bloody lb. Exercising, not drinking, eating far less than last month... :sneaky:
