Well, I'm in
further to an earlier post, I actually do live in Cheshire, so my closest decent hills are around the Lyme Park area, so I think I'll be seeing a lot of West Parkgate-Dale Top as my main hill rep over the next few months... :D

over 400m ascent on 3 separate hills on my Lyme Park run today
roughly similar gradient to Snowdon (although in MUCH smaller sections!)
starting to think I might crack 2 hours
Was that you daz about 5.40 just running up near the deer enclosure?.... just as we were getting another snow flurry. I'd been visiting friends nearby and was driving around lyme park on my first visit there.
pjfe - not me - I was finished by about 4:15pm, and had been more over on the Sponds Hill/Sweet Hill/Bowstones side
did get a few snow flurries myself though, but in between the views (esp from Dale Top) were STAGGERING! :)
cheeers daz, the friends we were visting were the other side of the a6 up the hill, with great views of lyme park and we could see deer through the binocs. Just had a quick visit in the car and drove past the hall/house and up left. To see the sky change and the snow come down all in a matter of minutes was great. Will enjoy visiting again in the summer maybe for a stroll round with the family. Nice place to run then I take it?
is the race full yet? i fancy giving it a go
Thanks CL,looking to do a few runs of the route before the race to workout footwear.Key is to strap yourself in tight to stop feet moving i think.I'm either wearing inov8 320 or some walsh raids with cushioning inserts.I normally wear inov8 290 but find they are quite flat and clompy (great word) on long hard descents.Quote:
Rodders don't forget to tape your feet, it can wear the skin off your heels.
Yeah i've got some 315's,find they have the same "clomping" feel as the 290,the 320 have alot more cushioning and so have a better heel to toe roll.Your right rock and stone is different in the wet.Quote:
A great deal depends on the weather on the day. Done it in road shoes 2 years ago and had no problems. Last year did it in rocklite 315's but wished I had done it in road shoes again. Its all down to personal preference and the weather.
I have yet to come across a good pair of fell type shoes that offer the support and comfort of the road based shoes. I suppose its only to be expected with the ruggedness of the terrain fell shoes are made for?
We walked Snowdon 3 weekends running a couple of years ago and everytime was totally different Rain, Frost, Snow, Wind and just about anything you can imagine but by god it was great.
I had no problem last year. Guess what I wore!:D
The course is designed to wear Puma Trail Fox. Its the only sensible option!
Am I the only one who doesn't notice any difference in comfort between the different types of shoe available? I think I must have killed my feet somewhere along the line.
The main difference for me is that if I wear flats on the fells, then I land on my ar$e more often (than usual). :)
Just logged onto the snowdon race website to find it's full!!!! Totally gutted, as I was planning to make a holiday of it. So if anyone has a place I could take i'd be really really grateful. Thanks. Going to bed now in sulk : (
I have sent you a PM
Pah! I know what you mean - I did Ras Cader Idris as I didn't yet have a qualifying race (only started running in January), as soon as I got home I posted off the application form for Snowdon only to be told it was full.
I'm holidaying in Betws y Coed at beginning of July so will have a run up there then. Won't be quite the same though :(
Thanks Iain, I had my eye on that one too as I've walked up it a few times. It's addictive this fellrunning, can't wait for the next run!
All being well I should have a place now - providing the officials will change our details over. But IanR..... I see you're experienced, and I need some advice. I was well and truly got by stomach cramp half way down cader, which stayed with me to the finish and impeded my time  Any tips? I'm thinking strengthen my core muscles - (this was different to your regular stitch), and i'll be trying the tonic water thingy i've read about. Maybe it was the tin of tuna I had at midday. I couldn't help it, a chewy bar just wasn't enough!
Only once had bad stomach cramp and that was after having a gel that just didn't agree with me, some sort of maximuscle type gel or something, wrecked me. I now eat porridge before a race, loads of good carbs, nothing dodgy, always sits well. Paula radcliffes tip. I think it just dragged water to my stomach and dehydrated me.
I'm on the waiting list hoping to get a place as well........ bit of a bummer as I wanted to make up for being crap in 2006! Also on the reserve list for ben nevis but have been told it's unlikely I will get a place:eek:! even bigger bummer!
And to top it all I haven't got a place for borrowdale either! as I couldn't print the form off and when I could it was full!!!!!!! At this rate we will have to pre-enter local mid week races months in advance:rolleyes:
Daz, can you not get a place on the England team?
It's very nice of you to suggest Andy, but I need to be a lot faster to make the England team.:o
I have emailed the organiser to tell him i will not be able to use my entry so someone on the waiting list should benefit
can anybody recommend a camp-site for the Slug Family Outing to Snowdon?
currently looking at either Llwyn Celyn Bach or Snowdon Inn, but am open to other suggestions...
Daz - stayed at a campsite on A4085 near Betws Garmon, had great showers:) and plenty of pitches but can't remember its name:(sorry. try tourist info.
I assume we all got emails from S4C asking us to provide a bit of personal background for the TV commentary?
(or are they only interested in me  )
Not sure how this will work -
will they pick out the most "interesting" CV's then look for their number during the race so as to work the most "commentary-worth" stuff in?
or will they find themselves saying "and here comes number 396... another miserable sod who couldn't be bothered to return our questionnaire, so we can't tell you anything about them..."?
Swoop (might as well use the proper race thread rather than the one in Training) - what time were you thinking of going for the half-way-recce on the Friday?
(there may be one or two Stockport Harriers doing a similar thing)
Done Snowdon 4 times and got blisters every time. Shoes were 1. Walshes, 2. Adidas Swoop, 3. New Balance road shoes (832's), and, 4. (last year which weren't too bad) Innovate Roclite 305's. I think it's a combination of the heat which, on the way up softens your feet, and the rapid foot movement RFM which I employ on the 5 mile downhill strecth, usually overtaking 50 - 60 SFM's. Roadrunner recommended Trailfox's to me a couple of years ago but before I could break them in our chewey bulldog bitch did it for me (bitch!). Just bought some New Balance 908's in the States (pure poetry!) last week and will give them a go this time. Watch this space (or look in at the hospital tent at the end of the race!!)
Yipee:):) just got a call from the secretary to say i've got a place this year, will be wearing my flyrocs if they manage to stay in one piece by then. :(
re Trailfox shoes.... I find mine treacherous on any damp/slippery slabs
is this noted by anyone else, or could I have a faulty pair (the grips started peeling off after only 2 runs)?
is it worth looking at the myriad of innov-8 shoes available to find a suitable pair, I'm asking myself... Was gonna use my mudrocs but they might be a bit unforgiving
