Terrible news and loss.
There'll be stud marks all over heaven by now! 6 years.....Still missed by all, that is clear. Hope his nearest and dearest are on OK.
Aye, six years....
Hard to believe it's been that long - Fairfield won't ever seem the same. RIP Daz
Went to Daz's cairn to say "Hello" yesterday on my way to marshalling on Hart Crag. A great friend. Sadly missed.
Any ravens about Geoff? Whenever I’ve been up to ‘see daz’ they’ve been around
Didn't hear any ravens - it was too claggy to see any.Quote:

Ravens are true mountain birds and very intelligent. Bird watchers often bracket them in with birds of prey. They are obviously well at home up there at the head of the horseshoe - long may they prosper

A wonderful guy and a truly incredible runner. Was just going to lurk here until I saw a post about Daz. Rest in Peace mate - one day I'll do your race in Buttermere!
Having laughed with Daz at the Scafell race (which Wharf has some brilliant photos) we had discussed the Lingmell ascent compared to Kirkfell ascent.
The Wasdale Show race was on his radar and the fact he had never done a Bofra race.
Gone but never forgotten.
Daz’s day. Thought about him while running across the very muddy fields, with the dogs. Just like he often did.
Thought of others missed too.
Was it really 7 years ago? Seems like yesterday. Here's to daz and all the other forum regulars who have gone on to the next place.
Seven years? I was had not joined Pennine long before we lost him. In GeoffB's weekly club summary emails, he was starting to run out of complimentary words to describe Daz's latest achievments. I was thinking this guy is a God. I do very few races and becasuse he lived so far from Hayfield I never met him on a Thursday training run, with the result that I never actually spoke to him. One of my great regrets in life as the reaction to his loss showed how much effect he had on people around him.
I was marshalling at the Pile of Stones checkpoint on Sunday, as I was 7 years ago. It's always a difficult weekend for Pennine, but none more so than for Stevie, who was running with Daz at the time.

That must be one of the best photos you’ve taken Wharfee. I remember thinking so at the time and actually commented to daz.
Funny how it was just before....
Thanks Wharfeego. Heart tugging reminder
A good friend pointed out earlier today another year has gone by since Darren’s passing
Rest in peace daz h
I didn't get into fellrunning until after his passing, but have a clubmate who knew him.
And the Buttermere race would be a fitting tribute to anyone.
Seconded DT. Was tidying up my messages the other day. No way can I delete what he sent me! Treasured communication.
Another year... RIP Daz, you genuine legend.
Very Much Missed a true Legend and really good friend too.
Another year <3
I never met him but felt like I did through this forum. Clearly a special bloke and a very sad loss to those who knew him.
10 years ago...where has the time gone...
RIP Daz
Spent a bit of time today going back through this thread, and spared a few moments in thought on Sunday in Patterdale.
10 years. OMG. The guy had a real impact, even on those who never met him. Thats special.
I actually came on here for the first time in ohhhh, 10 years? As I was thinking about Daz and XOTF and wondered if the forum was still going... Daz will remain a legend...
Steve posted regarding XOTF last year, but no specific details followed. I'd still like to see it return to the forum.
How's the knee H?
The knee is not too bad but I have never been able to get back to running. I use Nordic Poles now, to protect it when out walking, which seems to work well :)
How are you?
Do you still have that amazing Skoda?
Well, as you can see from my comeback thread i've got a good grip of my knee problems and i'm chugging along on a 'less is almost as much' philosophy. So not training every day and keeping the hard sessions short and sharp; everything, but in moderation. It would be nice to do like Daz did and get really serious about improving, but my maltracking has taken its toll and my knees would quit quite quickly.
I still have the grey Estelle, yes. I recently rebuilt the whole front axle, but it won't be roadworthy until i've got my garage built summer of next year and i can work on the rear. The engine is now topping out at 90bhp, which is over twice what it left the factory with. It'll be back on the road in the next couple of years, i'm in a 1991 Polo Coupe GT at the moment, it's very economical.
Looks like you got a good grip on things and glad to hear the car is still with us! :)
What happened to the Audi-pretending-it's a Porsche 924?
(I was talking to a guy a few days ago in Ilkley with an absolutely immaculate 928. He said it was his dream car but he couldn't afford to take it out much because it used half a tank of petrol everytime!).
Daz day <3
It's fitting that I wore my Belgian jersey today then.
