Pete, is the field available for parking or is it too boggy?
I've paid the farmer for parking in the usual field and when I was last there two weeks ago it looked dry. It has hardly rained since then and the forecast for the rest of this week has no rain at the moment, so it should be ok. Keep your fingers crossed.

Duvet weather!
Definitely duvet weather!
Another Ian Holmes fest.
Well organised event.
Thanks PeeJay, and all your helpers too.
Fantastic weather, don't mind the cold when the sun is out! First time a this race for me and really enjoyed it.
Thanks Peejay to you and your merryband of helpers.
Another excellent event.
Mr Holmes appears to be back in form AGAIN and old Mark Roberts had a fair run.
Good to see the Ambleside ladies had travelled in strength to take the ladies team prize.
Nice to see Alan Greenwood mending after his recent illness.
All in all a great day.
Sorry for the mistake.
I get mixed up after a boozie night.
It was worth celebrating after I had a cracking run.

Hi Emmilou.
You don't need to click on any links to view the vid. Just press play. That should work. Glad you like the vid. Someone said I've got a great war cry.

Ah, am on my phone so guess the screen is a bit different as it doesn't show anything embedded. Anyway, I've seen bambi bambers now, am I allowed to put it on the blog please for when I get round to being bothered to do a report?? I'm hoping someone decides to submit one before I have to think about it!
Yeh Em. Stick it on your report. No worries.

Apparently some people are not aware that Great Whernside and Whernside are two different hills in the Yorkshire Dales. Not surprisingly then there is some confusion about the Great Whernside Race being cancelled this year because the Whernside Race was cancelled in September.
The Great Whernside Race will take place on Saturday 26th October 2013, details as per the FRA fixture list. For the information of any Wharfedale Harriers, the race starts at 11.30am and not at 2pm as stated on your website.

Looking forward to this, it will be my first race back since injuring myself in the Welsh 1000m Peaks race last year. A year and a half not racing has been torture, I can't wait until Saturday!
One of my favourite races, it's the simplicity which appeals along with great organisation and a cracking route. Registration and parking in a farmers field, one of the toughest starts to any race you will find, a chance for the slower runners to see the leaders on the way back, man ( or woman ) eating bogs and a stream to wash in at the finish. Much recommended.
Its a great race to get your sharp studded Walshies out. Fast up and even faster down
Pity that both the campsite and the Kings Head have closed though.
Nevertheless, I'll be on the Golden Pippin in the Bluebell afterwards ~ hic!
Sam, if you look on the map it goes on the Fp above Dowber Gill Beck up to the building at Hag Dyke and then continues on the obvious Fp to the summit and back the same way so it's a fairly obvious route. Beware the start is a proper toughie, but enjoy the race.
No online map. Its up and down the direct path from the old campsite. Simples!
A longer description from the man himself is to be found here.
Set off up unfeasibly steep fields whilst listening to someone tell you it's 'very runnable'. At the point where you think your calves or lungs or both will burst realise there is some good running ahead. Totter up the steepest and roughest ground enduring what can only be called 'robust encouragement' from Morgan and Stagger. Start running again then notice Ian Holmes approaching at astonishing speed back from the top (you might hear him say he was taking it easy in the pub later when you ask him how much he won by). Then hack up another steep hillside, before staggering up the the trig-point, possibly manned by one of the best athletes of his generation. Reverse, wash in stream, feel sad the King's Arms is currently shut and start thinking about losing a stone and getting proper fit for next time. Oh and if you see Mr or Mrs Peejay make sure you thank them because it's truly one of the best races in the calendar
Cheers guys, I like a good hill to wake the legs up...
Another great event by Pewjay and his team.
The old master managed another victory (IH) closely chased by young Calder Valley lad Joe Crossfield.
Vic Wilkinson came home for the ladies.
Good weather and a quality field made for a great event again.
Thanks to all the helpers and well done Pete.
Proper tough up n down its been a while since ive done a straight up n down "dash" and it showed! thanks to all involved.
