Couple of hours on the boards and again managed to carve a wee bit off my 500 meter TT :) slowly getting stronger... So the hopes are up for when I start doing specific training for that 500 m TT :)
Oh and an hour on the rollers last night, in stead of the planned early morning 2 hours on the road... as it was too cold, wet and windy and especially still dark at 7 am :-O
Sort of but not really.....
Little bit of a jaunt from somewhere in Cornwall to somewhere near Thurso, not strictly a Steam Bunny event but we have been invited.... rude not to and all that!
I expect there will be an official Bunny outing at some stage as well. I'll keep you posted.
oh and today, swift 30 miles once the ice melted!
Ok Toff, keep me posted on any Steam Bunny stuff :)
I sneaked out for 2 hours on the road today, in the middle of the working day. As per coaches instruction, I am basebuilding so riding in zone 2 at all times... Well, I averaged at the top end of zone 2 with my heart rate... bit difficult to keep it bdown on climbs... And my God, my legs hurt :w00t:
How come this was so much harder on the legs than riding on the track, where the heart rate tends to be so much higheer? Ok it was cold, but I wasn't suffering with it withy all my winter woollies on... Yes, there were climbs, but I wasn't attacking them and yes there was wind, but I was slowing down to keep the HR down... so the effort was clearly much harder than perceived while doing it. Weird...
25k with eldest son (15) in cold fog.
Great result to get him to come with me and he says he enjoyed it and can we go again next week.
Can't wait.
Had a week at the sister-in-law's, down in Wiltshire; and took the 'cross bike with me. I've now covered covered a big chunk of the Ridge Way; from the SW extremity at Alton Priors ( SW of Marlborough ) as far E as the A34. They might not have 'proper fells', but there's some brilliant off road riding across the 'roof of Wessex'; not to mention loads of other old unsurfaced byways and a fantastic network of cycle tracks on old rail-beds.
that sounds fab WD!
Hann - could it 've made your legs tired because you'd done a few days in a row?
Stagger - I experienced some cold fog today (wore my bright yellow cape, and kept the lights on my commuting bike which is doubling as my winter bike) - a step into new distance territory for the year - the big 5-0! including slush, clag and winnats pass! - really feeling it in the last 10 miles - pretty pleased.
That Rodgeway is mighty fine... I have run along there, in a relay, would make a great thing to do on a crosser :)
Excellent riding ratfink, and I think you may be right about the two days in a row... this week was the first week where I did more than 3 sessions, and got back into doing two or even three days in a row of riding... However, the legs weren't too bad on the track Friday, which was day 4 of consecutive riding... Think it is the cold that makes things worse, as I struggled on the road again yesterday and it was cold but I had had a rest day on Saturday...
Well, rest day... up at 5 am to get to Manchester for the World Cup track racing... and not back till 2.30 am on Sunday :-O But an excellent day and night of racing was had!!! All fired up now for the conversion from roadie to trackie :)
Been out this afternoon for what was suposed to be a recovery ride.
Got battered by the head wind, legs tired from pendle recce yesterday and to cap it all a fron puncture in the most exposed part of the route.
A chard of glass about 5mm off centre of tyre. Less than 100mile on the tyre so its had the stagger repair treatment. Supposed to be a good winter tyre but I'm not impressed. It was a Schwalbe Durano.
Onwards and upwards.
25k with 500m ascent. And I intend to have a couple of beers now.
I'll be back on the thread again tomorrow.
Tyre knackered.
Only good for turbo now.
Beer good and conti ultra now on front for tomorrow.
I had Gatorskins on my bike & they were great tyres, but they were a bit smelly when I was on the turbo in a tiny room/broom cupboard. I've got GP4000s on at the moment, which although more fragrant I fear they are going to explode soon. I'll be back to Gatorskins when that happens.
I'm considering selling my TT bike & getting a cyclocross bike.
Does anyone have an opinion on what I should get/avoid. I'll be happy to buy from the classifieds as I think there may be a few coming up as we're at the end of the season & the fact that people may be upgrading to the now legal disc brake crossers.
Cheers all ;-)

Paul Milnes is always worth a look - often got second hand in, or will build you up a bike if you see a frame you like.
Ooh todays bike ride
Light enough now for a cross country morning commute to chesterfield - 12 miles with extra hills (took an hour)
Anyone fancy this?
Bike + cake + beer + (potential running) Weekend in the peak 11 March
Sorry for shamelss plug - my mates are organizing - ostensibly a bike weekend out of Bretton in the peak - but awesome running on abney moor straight from the hostel as well! 2 x 100k rides (with potential for extensions/ shortcuts and running as mood and weather dictate) enough leaders to cater for all abilities - check out some new roads (not to mention cafes!) in the Peak :D
Oh forgot to mention - you get to go to the fabulous Bretton Barrel - without having to worry about driving home!
a ratty whisker under 50 miles today
club meet up at 9:45 - intended to head out at 8:30 but was 8:45, to get 11 miles i before main club run. Then working really hard to keep up bout 5000 feet (1524m) climb - average 13mph which is quite a bit faster than 50 miles last week albeit with less slush and group benefit - when i could hang on! Don't feel as totally destroyed either.
Have a look on the "Planet X" website at their "Uncle John" with various build permutations - if you are looking for a full-on competition bike. If you are looking for a recreational crosser / rough-stuff tourer then their sister company On*One have their "Pompetamine" with Avid disc-brakes and Shimano Alfine hub gears! Currently have 25mm Gatorskins on the Planet X Ti Sportive/Audax bike, appear to be a dependable tyre.
Lets be careful out there :w00t::w00t:

whatan idiot!
it says he felt threatened by people banging on his car, but from the footage the majority of people he plows into were riding well in front of his car in a chilled out manner!
Colnago felt good today and the weather was fantastic for the 1st of March. 9 of us headed up to the cafe at Feizor for a spot of lunch and very nice it was to. 2 of us came back together after some mechanical issues with the others. 60 miles @ 16mph so nice and social.
Maybe should be on the overweight confessions thread, pedalling uphill yesterday and saddle went snap and ended up pointing skywards, had to do the last 3 miles stood up:o
Nice 41k this afternoon. Hazy sunshine but a chilly eastly breeze.
A hilly little thing with 930m of climbs.
Confession time.
I was on the SUMMER bike and it went great.
AND
The new ultremo ZX tyres came today (but I'm saving them until I wreck these ultremo R.1's thats on now)
An hour on the Ti bike (i.e. racing bike/summer bike) and it was f*cking freezing! Needless to say I foudn it hard work, as it was windy too and I was riding into a headwind the whole time, as I was coming back from dropping the car of at the gagare :(
Thankfully I am on the track tomorrow, but it is getting urgent that I start getting some serious mileage in, especially on the road :/
what is the urgency? have you got something coming up?
i did an hour sufferfest (interval video) in the shed last night.
Thnaks guys, you are right, no urgency... I am on base building in zone two till the end of April... But am feeling so disheartened that I am so very unfit :(
But had a good three hours on the boards today and feeling a bit better, as I did make some progress today... Just not as fast as I'd like, but the show of progress in todays session was encourageing :)
Two hours roughly steady on the road tomorrow and 3 on Sunday planned :)
Just a steady potter round my fav 25k loop. 500m ascent and all on quite roads. 67mins.
Went on the winter bike with a new shorter stem.
Kept suffering with back ache and Doctor Daz gave me reason and solution at James Thorn race last Sunday.
Still a tad chilly when the breeze gets yer.
Great to be out though.
step back week for me - 33 mile club ride, in perpetual rain - felt like i'd been through a washing machine cycle :-)
Well done Trevor
Try moving your levers back up your bars 1/2 inch as well. You will be surprised.
100 miles for me today in that shit weather. No stops and just a mars bar to see me through. The Peak District was horrible today but in a few weeks it will be nice again.
65miles on Thursday in lovely crisp weather, 100miles last friday. Plenty of sessions on the rollers as well.
Well done to to all of you for riding in this rough weather. Not easy but just keep at it.
Nice to see you at James Thorn Trev.
If your getting through those tyres pump them up more. You can run them over 120psi you know. Thats just the manufacturers being cautious. Stick 130psi in them Trev. People say run them at 90psi at this time of the year. That was okay before these two bad winters. Put plenty in them and after 60 miles they will have less than a hundred in them anyway.
Even two pairs of socks and two lots of overshoes didnt stop my feet getting wet today. The 7 mile climb up via gellia and to newhaven as great fun with the torrent of water coming down
Blimey Daz, some serious miles being cranked up there! Managed a belated outing today, the planned 80 reduced to 60, time pressures and train strikes, its a long sorry tale! Anyway, tried to meet up with the lads doing 80 but clearly missed them so just kept going in a pennance sort of way, beyond Maesteg, through Cerau, don't stop there, your bike will be knicked from underneath you and sold for drugs in a jiffy! Somehow ending up in Abergwynfi, the jewel of the valleys as OGB says, for the second time this week. Good climb over the Bwlch, but utterly freezing wind once on the top and all the way down to Treorchy and beyond. Knew things were grim when the gritting lorry gave me the once over with salt on his travels. So cold, didn't dare stop otherwise would have been frozen to the spot and bike knicked and sold for drugs etc. Didn't warm up until the roundabout of death just north of Cardiff and trundled in feeling a little weary and very hungry!:):)
That sounds like a pretty epic ride Toff! Not sure when I last reported, think it was Thursday... but was on the boards for 3 good hours on Friday, starting to feel like a proper cyclist again at last!
Saturday I spent at my bike sponsors team launch and got myself a snazzy Ti cross frame with disc brake mounts to build into my ideal 3 peaks cx bike :-O Gt carbon forks from him too, to go woth it... looking at Hope kit and a Shimano road/MTB mix groupset...
In the afternoon I decided to put in a stint on the TT bike, as there appeared to suddenly be the chance of being called as a substitute partner for a mate in a 25m two up time trial... half an hour on the TT bike on the rollers, followed by an hour on the road and the bike felt GOOD!
Just as well I did, as I was indeed asked to perform on Sunday. Set off too fats feeling strong and working with a juch stronger male tt-er... and blew up spectacularly but a short 1.07 not bad on a sporting course and not being at all race fit yet :)
Today I had to ride in London... potholes and idiot drivers galore and not been able to find a good training spot here in South London. I normally stay in West London and go to Richmond Park...
Need to improvise again somehow tomorrow, not sure what line to take yet... maybe just do hillreps up a hilly road roudn the corner? Other than that it is trying to track stand on a geared racing bike at traffic lights and doing traffic light sprints LOL
Bike still at menders. So another spinning session. Nirvana is murder when used as backdrop for murder hill rep session!!!
30 minutes yesterday evening through the undulating Belgian countryside...
Belgian countryside? Were you using that iMagic at last?
Yes, I'm trying to do 45mins to an hour every day to try and retain some level of fitness while the calf heals. 45 mins yesterday as well using a GPX file of a route round here. Just been to buy a turbo tyre as the one on the bike is slipping a lot. Then another hour or so.
take a deep breath and watch this. gnarly:p

37km long commute to work this morning. No bad.
That video's too technical for me, but don't like it too smooth. Did the 25ml Stanage circuit yesterday, and the bulldozers were out smoothing Houndkirk Lane, which has for years been one of my favourite sections - rough enough to be interesting, but not too technical and all rideable. What a shame.
The descent from Stanage Pole is just too rough. Does anyone manage to stay on on that?
