Wil Spain (DP) and Sarah O'Neill (HBT) go Friday evening on what is promising to be a cracking SPOOK weekend in the lakes! Now, time to sleep ahead of the night-shift!
Wil and Sarah are starting at 6.45, following the DP schedule
Good luck Stolly and anyone else attempting, I may see you at some road crossing somewhere! (Probably not Stolly unless something's gone really wrong for Wil and Sarah/incredibly right for Stolly though!)
Yes, good luck to everyone who has an attempt today. Myself and Protodoc are supporting Stolly on Legs 3 & 4, so hope to catch up with some of you over the weekend.
Martyn, have you got a date in mind for another attempt?
Thunderbirds are go at stolly mission control. Not being OCD or a control freak myself in any possible way, I've never-the-less even got a waterproof notepad all pre-written up for my pacers to (neatly :) ) mark up as I hit each peak....

Best of luck to all going tonight
btw Stolly, if you end up on Grasmoor you should have a quiet word with your pacers :closed:
I've helpfully already completed the first page (on the basis that I manage to leave exactly on time if nothing else) and all time recorders should hopefully be able to scrawl the time nicely and not go over the lines of the box provided...

Incidentally remind me to have a word with my waterproof notepad supplier Hester - the notepad only had 50 pages and I of course need to record 52 times (including Moot Hall, Threkeld, Dunmail, Wasdale and Honister arrivals and departures). Luckily I was supplied with two notepads and I've been able to take two pages from one to add to the other.... but, phew, it took me a while to come up with that solution!
You're expecting neat handwriting? Forget that, I can only write neatly in other languages and Mark's a doctor, he can only write in illegible scrawl. It's a deliberate ploy to confuse patients.
Maybe Mark can help with Stolly's OCD?!! Re the above: @Stolly, your supplier thought...42 peaks, 2 for the moot hall and 4 road pitstops...anyway, I've printed off the schedule and got busy with a pink highlighter and I'm now factoring in where the support crew can safely nap for an hour or so. In the meantime, I'm going back to print my goldfinch.
Stolly set off bang on 11pm. Now I am sat at threkeld getting ready for leg2. Just had a shower pass through so hope we dont get too meny of those.
Adrian
Adrian, do you know anything about Sarah O'Neil's BG progress? Yiannis
Hi everyone, update on Stolly. Leg 1 was a bit tricky but he cracked it & was 15mins down but I've just seen him off at Dunmail & he's only 4mins behind plus the wrsther & visibility have improved loads. Thanks to Gav & Lee for helping us on 1st leg (I ran too). Adrian & Mark on 2nd & MartynP, Protodoc & Lucas are taking over now. Will try & post an update after Wasdale.
Sounds like Stolly is going well. Should be around Langdales Pikes now
Keep on moving! :)
Hows Stolly doing? I haven't much nails left ;) Hop the weather has improved...
Weather glorious here, and I have a new MTB, so I am off out for a round of the Black Muntains on the bike :)
When I get back I hope to hear tales of success and see a picture of him at Moot Hall :)
Does anyone have any info on todays rounds ? Its all gone very quiet...
I'm sorry to say that Stolly was forced to pull out on leg 3 at Esk Pike. We were caught in a sudden spell of very bad weather and it all got a bit nasty. We retreated down to Styhead and into Wasdale via the pass and Hes brought Mark and myself back to Dunmail. Stolly is probably fast asleep in his tent outside Keswick right now, I'm sure he'll pass on the full story later on. Brave attempt and disappointing for him, there were patches of blue sky above when we were going up Steel Fell and we all thought it was going to be a good day weather-wise.
It was the Lingmell Dash in Wasdale today, they all seemed to come in OK - you could see the Lingmell summit clearly, so maybe that was one top that escaped it.
Nicky Spinks, attempting the BG record (Anne's 18:49) is halfway the last section and going strong. With the bad weather we had since the start at 4am she deserves a medal as well as the record. Yiannis
How disappointing :(
Totally agree Derby, having experienced conditions that started fine going up Steel Fell and ended up with all 4 of us (Stolly, Lucas, myself and Martyn) all trying desperately to put on our waterproof trousers and gloves at Esk Shelter and only just managing it (we were pretty close to hypothermic by then), I can only sit here agog at Nicky's stamina and fell running ability, go Nicky!!
Hard luck Stolly, it was pretty horrible out there today. I passed you as you were just heading up from Stakes Pass (we were the group of 5 coming down right next to the pass) and the bad weather hit soon after - it was miserable even in the valley so I can imagine it was much worse up on the tops! I was in a heavyweight Primaloft jacket and waterproofs and still cold in the wind where we were camping at Angle Tarn so you guys must have been freezing!
Nicky Spinks: 18:12, a new record. Yiannis
WOW that's incredible - well done Nicky!!
Wow! Well done indeed Nicky! Amazing achievement.
Well done Nicky, any news on other rounds ?
From Dark Peak website:
Many congratulations to Will Spain who completed his BG today, in the company of Hunter Bog Trotter Sarah O'Neil, in 23.45. A fine result in the conditions, ably supported by a rather more fresh faced team than is the Dark Peak norm.
Wow!!!! Well Done Nicky I am in awe, who needs the Olympics a true Athlete.
