Listen to your mate whos driving and tells you that it's downhill all the way to finish.
Only he had his village idiot hat on and since he had driven the other way, had forgotten we were going the way he had just come!!

Try to answer a mobile phone.
Before we have the spouting of "what were you carryingone for!!!" my wife was expecting a child and I went off to do an off road marathon! She phoned to say she was bored!

Re: things not to do when runn

Re: things not to do when runn
...believe your faster, fitter pals when they say "just over the next rise and it's all downhill from there. We should be back in 10minutes..." :(

I was 5 miles from the end, but with a short cut back which could have taken me 10 minutes to get to the car. I was ready to leap like a loon through a few fields to the road and hare off in the car!
The baby didn't come for another three days.

Re: things not to do when runn
Almost run into a bus stop whilst chatting to another runner! :D
-
Re: things not to do when runn
Run past the queue at a bus stop just as a woman holding a heavy can of paint raises her arm to flag down the bus. Caught me a very sensitive area, must to the amusement of the queue of people, i'm sure!

well i was only 6 when this happened and playing cricket on a beach in wales.
i had hit the ball well and a car decided to drive along the wicket to take a short cut, i hit the door as i was charging for the stumps at the other end and hit the car door full on.
made quite a mess of the car.

Run through snow covered gorse in shorts
Decide to cool off on a warm day during an ultramarathon by stuffing snow down your sports bra (obviously applicable to only some forum members) - it works, but I had excruciating muscle pain across my chest for about 2 days afterwards

The problem with the IOM is it's f@cking motorsports mad to the detriment of all other sports over here. For example there was a cyclestadium built as a cycletrack in the 50's. Then it got converted in the 60's to be used as a stock car track (with stantions, etc so the cycletrack couldn't be used). This year the lease was up & the cyclist put in a bid for the track, offering about £500,000 in investment (they actually got the backers to put up the money as well & plans for Commonwealth & Island games), plus stating they would take innitiatives to improve the park as a whole.
What happens? The godamn stockcars get their bid approved for another 7 years(when apparently all they were going to do was paint the stadium & resurface their bit of the track). I mean this Island produces world class track cyclists, gold medalists @ commonwealth levels, etc & yet when we put in a bid for a track of our own, it gets bloody turned down for a bunch of amatuer operators who are just out to make money. To my knowledge in the last 30+ years we have not yet produced any world champion stock car racers. It's f@cking lunacy. But then what else did we expect??? I suspect it was a case of "we don't like change" & stick with what you know!!
Funny they can close the roads anytime there's motoracing on, but they can't do that for any cycle event!!!

I had that the other week.....a couple of hundred sheep in the field. I'm sure they thought I was the farmer but was still, as you put it, sh%tting myself when they all came storming after me and penned me into the corner of the field!!
They were coming with a yard of me, or even nearer! I ended up shouting at them to get them to back off:cool: (no-one saw me luckily!!) and then made a mad dash for the stile!!

Re: things not to do when runn
Cobbydale, Mr1470 perhaps you are just amazingly attractive and irresistable to sheep. Oh to be so blessed.
