was tempted but did it last year so trying the Radcliffe 12m multi-terrain instead.
you going for a pb?
Was tempted, part of the club road champs so will be loads of other Eryri runners, but 13 miles fast in a cast won't be comfortable.
yep - PB attempt
current PB is 2:02, so determined to crack 2hrs
have binned Long Slow Runs, as they don't seem to work for me, and have replaced with a steady diet of Long Slightly-Above-Lactate-Threshold Runs :D
hoping to hold 8:50-9:00 pace for a time of about 1:56-1:58 :)
Have done this one for the last couple of years, quite a flat route if I remember. Did think of doing it again but would probably go for the Radcliffe 12m Trail race providing I'm okay after the Parbold Hill Race on Sat.
Good luck cracking 2hrs Daz.
you will break 2 hours Daz, be a good milestone too, good luck, will check the board sunday to find out!
I have absolutely no idea what a lactate threshold run is, let alone a long, slightly above one  . Daz forget the science and just have a good run. I sometimes wonder at the logic of running as flat as possible half marathons in search of a pb - I always find running a half marathon with hills better as it gives me all the excuses needed should things go pear shaped :)
These roadie types with their arcane jargon! :D
A lactate threshold or tempo run is one performed at the level of exertion where the body's anaerobic system begins to supplement the energy provided by the aerobic system. In practice, this is when you have enough puff to speak only in short two or three word sentences. The purpose of this type of run is to increase your tolerance to lactate build-up in the muscle and thus raise your lactate threshold, giving you better aerobic efficiency.
Apparently, the Kenyans swear by these runs and try to incorporate two into their weekly schedules. I find it is very difficult for me to keep to the right pace on the fells; I need to do these sessions on the flat! :(
holding a particular pace/rate of exertion on the flat for 2 hours is a different kind of challenge to off-road hilly running
I'm not saying I enjoy it, but it is a challenge!
oh, and I'm doing the Haweswater HalfMara in a couple of weeks, so plenty of excuses there!
after that, it's back to the hills (aaahhhh!) and train up for Kinder Downfall, Fairfield Horseshoe, Kinder Trog and Snowdon...
how did it go?
1:58
thanks for asking! :D
if a Half Marathon was ever run under such perfect conditions of course/weather I'd be VERY surprised - practically everybody I know of got a PB - one guy had, like me, never gone sub-2hr before and clocked 1:48!
another guy lowered his PB by 4 mins to 1:21
another ran a 3.5min PB to 1:18
it was a magical day
excellent news on the PB, big congratulations. Time for a new milestone!
results available anywhere?
Thanks guys.

Haweswater in a fortnight - might see a sliiiight difference in times...
well, time for my annual flat road half mara :w00t: this Sunday
anybody else off here?
I believe Harrymoon is on for quite a quickish time. Curse his youth and talent :)
I will keep a lookout for harrymoon - only before the start mind, as I'll have no chance of seeing him after the gun goes!
not sure what I'll be wearing - won't be a Fell Ponies vest - possibly a midnight blue Man City training sleeveless t-shirt...
Congrats to harrymoon on a top 10 finish
[and this despite losing a couple of minutes due to course sabotage  ]
meanwhile down in 336th position...
a small PB for me, despite not training properly for the last 3 months! no idea how this happened
mmm - does that mean I was the only one there yesterday that did not get a PB -.
Great race yesterday - shame about the stupid pillock who move the course marker twice which mean at least 11 runners did 11.3 miles instead.
I am trying to mix it up a bit this year with some road races but although I enjoyed the race, the steady plodding round trying to maintain the same pace and then listening to someone ask if they should start their watch when they shouted go or when they crossed the start line which was only 10 feet in front sort of confirmed why I prefer fell running.
right!
time for my annual half-mara PB on Sunday...
1:52 last year
this year hoping to stick to 8min miles and threaten 1:45
predicting 1:47:something...
Woah, go Daz. I think you'll do it with all the fell running you've been doing over the past year.
