Here, here. All Brendan Foster kept going on about was developing British Long Distance talent. Where is the insiration going to come from for our young athletes if the BBC don't even show the first UK runner crossing the line?
Surely some of the youngsters at the Bunny runs etc. would get a buzz from seeing RR at a race one week, then on the telly the next?

    Rant over!

    PS Well done RR.

Not seen any of the BBC coverage this year, but going on past experience everyone who isn't in the elite race is referred to as a fun runner.

I was running alongside a guy dressed as Spiderman for quite a few of the early miles, if he maintained pace he'd have done around 2:45. I got overtaken by Superman around 8 miles too. Bloody superheroes At least the experience was a lot less traumatic than running in the same group as a naked bloke in San Sebastian last year (and not being able to pick the pace up enough to get in front )

They may not have been taking the race as seriously as most of the club runners around us, but they were surely good runners, who had trained and prepared hard for the event.

I took my pink Pony vest with me, the officials in the championship start area were dubious about validity. I knew not wearing my club vest would mean I wouldn't count for the team competition, which didn't matter since we had too few for a team anyway... but Fell Ponies wasn't on their registered club list and they were unsure if it was a sponsor logo, which meant I could be disqualified from the race.

I ended up wearing my club vest because I couldn't be bothered with the hassle.

Sounds like you posed them some quality questions - who in their right mind would want to sponsor the Ponies

What was the craic with lasses in the Championship start with the men this year? First time for a few years I haven't entered and I've missed out big time there.

And why were there queues for the WCs? We never have queues in the Championship start (and they even have pictures on the walls above the handbasins)

Some of the ladies weren't too happy being with the men! Loos were a big problem at the start.

It certainly made the wait time to the start much more enjoyable, and it was good racing there alongside women for a change.

If the weather had been bad it would have been very crowded sheltering in the marquees. Most of us were outside (the marquees were incredibly stuffy). I'd say the area was about at capacity to be comfortable. It certainly didn't seem any bigger area than usual despite nearly double the people.

I wasn't happy about the queuing for the loo, I was waiting in line for about 15 minutes, not used to that from that start and it ended up a bit of a rush for final preparations. Only 3 sit down loos for the men, they were directing us to the women's blocks if they had shorter queues but most of us were too polite. Still had the wallpaper and wallhangings though.

Not sure how it worked out behind me at the start of the race, pen 1 of the mass start is predicted sub 3, there must have been quite a lot of championship women slower than that so I hope there wasn't too much pushing and shoving in the crowds.

Not sure how I'd feel about the change if I was female, having your own race would certainly feel special, but it must have got a bit lonely out there and in the 2:45-3:15 range it must be better having more people around you.

Mates who were on the new Good for Age 'fast runner' start found it much better being on the red start without celebrities to push past, and it allowed the Blue starters to spread out a bit before we joined up, that's got to be an improvement.

That's a bit harsh on the Ponies

Although I think you and the Master have been compared to Statler and Waldorf on here before
