"The best shield is to accept the pain, then what can really destroy me?"

1st Dominic Raby (Chorley)
2nd Jon Morgan (Dark Peak)
3rd Tom Brunt (Holmfirth)
4th Simon Harding (Macclesfield)
5th Andrew Orr (Clayton) I think....
Ladies:
1st Karen Davison (Dark Peak)
2nd Helen Fines (Calder Valley)
Interesting race - none of us in the "chasing group" realised that Pete had gone wrong going down to checkpoint 9 so we all thought we were running for 2nd. I had a slender lead at the summit (CP 10), Jon caught me on the way down to 11 and then Dom showed a superior turn of speed on the road and passed both of us on the run in. 13 seconds between 1st and 3rd I seem to recall.
Just before that picture was taken, I was nearly forced to retire by way of fatality!!
Coming down Gernanimo, I was nearly at the bottom, then I heard cries of 'WATCH OUT, ROCK!!' only to turn round and see this big rock surging down behind me, to which I just jumped ( Ninja style ) about the last 8 foot to the stream bed, and the rock ended up missing by inches.
Well worth the 270 mile round trip for me. I really enjoyed the race and finished in 3:47 which I'm pleased with, but with hindsight I reckon I could have knocked 10 minutes off that if I'd been familiar with the route.
Never mind, I'll be back next year
Hills and Guinness!
You'll notice from this that I took the reservoir path round the lower Ogden reservoir rather than the road. Thinking being it was more level, and softer underfoot. By this stage my balls (of my feet) were really sore, so I thought I'd be quicker. Not too sure how this worked out as I could see a couple of heads bobbing above the wall gradually getting ahead of me (managed to claw a couple of these back once I rejoined the road for the last 200m or so), but I know I was level with the ninja when I snuck off, and ended up a min or so ahead of him at the end.
Word on the elevation: Garmin is notorious for overstating it. SportTracks has it at 4,269ft. Make of that what you will. And why no Garmin in a race? You get a lovely picture at the end of where you've been!
