What a great run out this morning! I nearly couldn't get through to Mytholmroyd as there'd been a big dump of snow overnight & Rochdale was a bit tricky. But the sky was clear & it looked like a good morning was ahead, so I risked it & got over Summit & through to reach the car park by the White Lion at 8:25 - just in time. I half expected nobody to be there but Mountain Man & Sean were getting ready for the off.
We were running on virgin snow for virtually all the 16 miles. It was crystal clear, very cold in the valleys & a bit warmer when we could see the sun - the side valleys don't see much sun in the winter. The snow was generally not deep enough to slow us down much, although it was a bit slippy in a few places. It was deeper up at Blackshawhead and on Stoodley Pike - drifts of up to about a foot in places. A great morning out. And that's most of the Hebden recce'd as well - the Hebden route is based on this one.
Thanks Tony, thanks Sean!
