Yes Marrow, I ran that the last time that it covered that route in '84, starting from Buttermere up to Littledale Edge and finishing off Whiteless down into Buttermere. In '85 it became the Sailbeck race.
The only difference is that the AW would include the summit of Robinson and also extend N to finish off Cat Bells.

The original route covered both sides of the valley but we decided that we would prefer a medium race that more could enjoy.... Now maybe it will be both - what do you think Yianni???

Well, I have sent Wynn my three options and she can decide.
My preferred normal race route would go up Causey P, Scar Crags, Ard Crags, Knott Rigg, Robinson, etc. Obviously, the best route to Robinson from Newlands Hause goes up the reedy gully as Wheezing Donkey (IR) mentioned. For me, the transition from Scar Crags to Ard Crags via the watershed at the top of Rigg beck and Sail beck is the most scenic part of the route.

The Wheezing Donkey has also come up with an even better route that might be worth sharing.....

    Start at Stair Bridge
    CP1 - Outerside
CP2 - Grisedale Pike (monster descent and re-ascent)
    CP3 - Hopegill Head
    CP4 - Grasmoor
    CP5 - Whiteless Pike
    CP6 - Robinson
    CP7 - Dale Head
    CP8 - High Spy
    CP9 - Catbells
Finish as the current Anni Waltz.

Memory Map makes this 16 miles with (wait for it) 8200ft of climbing!

I think it's an excellent route

First race I ever did, the short version of the Nuts In May, I was 15. The people I did circuits with were amazed I wasn't doing the long version, I didn't do any running at all at the time, so I'm not sure even the 'short' course was a good idea. I remember it took me 3:15, and exactly an hour to the top of Hopegill Head, I also remember crossing the finish line, going stright into the Loweswater Village Hall toilets and throwing up. Awesome!!

If the Anni Waltz is going to be a teenager, make it a TEENAGER WITH ATTITUDE
