So, are the sections you're not supposed to train on: 1. the shortcut from the Penyghent path to the Ribble Way at Sell Gill Holes (which appears to have walls in the way on the 1:25,000 map) and 2. the ascent of Whernside? Any sections I've missed?

The legit way up Whernside is obvious but what about getting from the Penyghent path to the Ribble Way if that's disallowed?

PS My planned reccie this Sunday is now off. The lurgy that I thought I was just getting over has come back again.

I'm pretty sure you can go where you like round this area (although someone please correct me - I know you will) as its open access land - However at some times of the year you cant take a dog (for lambing and grouse I think) but you can wander where you like.
