have been wanting to do this for a few years and been looking at this year, so some questions.
-do a lot of people who finish mix running with walking?
-food is supplied at cp along the route, altho you have to take emergency rations?
-you need 2 maps covering the area, can you photocopy the area needed, laminate and use this instead or do you have to take the os maps?
-id be driving up on morning, is it possible to drop one car of at start and partners car of at finish or do you have to use official bus?
cheers for any info
-yes
-there's food at the roadside checkpoints, 300g of emergency ration must be carried.
-you must have the full maps - Harvey/BMC Yorkshire Dales covers the whole area and I'm guessing that this will suffice - I intend to check with the organiser cos' they're quite strict.
-there's plenty of parking at the finish. You don't have to use the official bus - that's for people who sleep over at the finish, cost about a fiver extra but has the advantage that you register on the bus rather than queing at the start (bus leaves at some insanely early time though!)
It's a good laugh(think I'm losing my marbles)

I always find a vast majority run it to dent and then due to the pull up to blea moor its walking - which I find the quickest way but I guess its down to how fast you walk v running up hill
In the past I've always run as much as possible to get over fleet moss in the light....which is the key to it in my view and then you are home free...well sort of !
Last year I dropped off cars at start and finish as I just wanted a good nights sleep...I've had some shocking nights on the gym floor at threshfield...(<3 hrs sleep due to snoring, farting and people talking in their sleep)
The full english breakfast you can have at 5am isn't the best start either...not knocking the organisation its very good, but for me greasy fry up doesn't rest well..I prefer my porridge!
It's a top event and the commoradory is great....especially during the early hours...for me the key is to get to 20 miles @ Dent in decent time and without any blisters...then I really start to enjoy it....mainly because the first 20 is a bit hilly![]()
The year I did it we got over Fleet Moss before dark - but went a bit askew going over Middle Tongue, which was much wetter than Fleet Moss. A bit later in the night we headed for the lights of Cray village thinking it was cray checkpoint.
The food at checkpoints is rather good - so you really do only need to carry the minimum required.
I always make the mistake of taking too much food and water.....I normally just take some jelly babies, emergency rations and enough energy powder to last me the distance. As the food/drink checkpoints are pretty regular water is always round the corner.
For those interested I plan to reccie the Fleet moss / middle tongue / Great Whernside section late feb/early March - will raise a reccie thread nearer the time for those interested (although I know some of the route is on private land so this would have to be avoided)
Muddy Retriever - are you going to get your entry in or bottle it....hows the pie and pizza eating going and have you lost that weight yet ?

I'm intrigued, MR. Where do you work, a confectionery factory? Can I come?
