Today's Wildlife Encounter

Just back from a week of wall-to-wall blue sky and sunshine in NW Scotland.
Some stunning wildlife encounters on Skye, Rum and Eigg and in Knoydart, including Sea Eagle, Golden eagle, Great Northern Diver and Dotterel.
Work was a bit of a shock to the system today!

There used to be wallabies on the Roaches near Leek although last I heard was they'd not been seen for a while. Any recent sightings anyone?

I saw what I think must have been a mink yesterday down on the riverbank. Weasely / ferrety looking thing, dark brown to black and about as long as my forearm; very agile and also very comfortable swimming in the water

Def a mink...get thi cage traps out!

two red squirrels, a dotterel, loads of ptarmigan, sunbuntings but no deer very surprising.

Apart from plenty of Canada Geese (flying overhead and on the reservoir), Curlew, Lapwings & a Merlin over Kex Gill Moor best encounter was the grass snake on one of the paths around Thruscross Reservoir.

I found a grass snake today, unfortunatley it had been flattened by a vehicle.
