Re: Shelf Moor Fell Racr Route

[QUOTE=Margarine;111207]Freddie you should get out with the harriers one night I'd be happy to have a trot around the course anytime soon and I'm sure some of the others would too. It shoud be bye bye to the roads before long - IT'S SPRING!!!

I will do and look forward to it, just a small matter of the London Marathon first !!

Re: Shelf Moor Fell Racr Route

I had a shock when I saw the thread title - I thought "it can't be a year since already!!".

A great race this, very heavy climb on the outward section but one of my favourite descents back.

+1 for the Herod Farm race, well worth doing. I can't wait for midweek fellracing to return, I flipping hate the winters these days.

    Shelf Moor Fell Race

Just a small plug for the Shelf Moor Fell Race organized by the Glossopdale Harriers which is coming up soon.

    Sunday 6th Sept.
Main Race: SHELF MOOR (R). AS. 11.00 a.m. 5.9m/1500' from Scout Hut, Old Glossop, (GR SK042949). £4. Teams free. Over 16.

The prizes are still to be finialized but will definitely include ale sourced from IanDarkPeak.

Also this year there will be a junior race. Note the details are slightly different from the those advertised in the FRA handbook, the junior race will now be, 1.6m/365', starting soon after senior race. I have shortened the Junior race from advertised to avoid any potential overlap with the Senior race. The Junior race will be a basic out and back race starting from the finish point of the Senior race. The start section is fairly level, but this will be followed by a tough short climb up the initial portion of Lightside (this is the final descent in the Senior race).

Top race this, it was one of my first.

Nothing I can think of Andy, no navigation worries the top is marked with flags (or it was previously) - other than don't worry if it seems too fast at the start, they're only taking the mickey on the flat.

Once you're desceding get the brakes off its a brilliant descent to the finish.

Looking forward to this one, down as one of our club counters too, so hopefully a few Helsby runners will be there

The section from the trig to Dowstone Clough is easy to mess up in the clag.

    Re: Shelf Moor Fell Race

I went wrong a couple of years ago on the section from James' Thorn to the trig - and it was fully flagged! The mist was that thick you couldn't see from 1 flag to the next!

I'm doing Peris the day before, so I might not be able walk let alone run by the Sunday. Perhaps I'll go along and watch.

By the way, this is due to be an English champs race next year - and it certainly deserves it.

Oh yes, the prizes were fantastic last year. As well as the beer, the winners each received a chocolate fell shoe (size 11, I think), made at a local chocolatiers in Glossop.

That's pretty much the reverse of my route for Tanky's last year. I shan't be going that way this year, though; I think I'll be taking your route, Mark.
