    Dalby forest?

    Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could advise on routes in the Dalby forest/NY moors area please? I'm looking to do something around 10-15 miles tomorrow but don't know the area at all and won't be able to look at a map until the morning.
    Many thanks

There's a main centre that all sorts of maps routes etc if you need them, not sure what time it opens though. are you running or cycling? The options are quite endless there you can stay quite local and run in all wooded areas or go along the river side and even onto the open fell.

    Have a good day

    Hi,
thanks for replying. I'm running but have never been there before. I'm guessing from your description that it's a similar set-up to Hamsterley type places so I can just potter around as I please?
I'm hoping that it will snow!
how does this place work? Is it possible to find running partners by posting on the forum (in which case, which forum?!)? I'd like to start running with someone occasionally rather than always on my own
    Have a good day too

There's a main parking area and 'tourist' centre and yes you can potter round until your hearts content and never stray very far if you don't want? There are some good hilly bits to trot up and no doubt you will encounter LOTS of mtb'ers. It's a lovely area to pootle for sure - well if like me you love the smell of rained on pine trees! good paths, nce underfoot.

It depends what you want in terms of running companions. This is far from open fell with no tricky decents or tough terrrain but I'm sure there are people local to you that would be happy to accompany you? Where are you based and how far do you want to travel? There are plenty of folks especially on here, that will guide you round various bogs and hills

    Cheers Emmilou.
I'm heading to Dalby because my car requires a bit of tlc at the moment and I don't fancy driving too far from York city to the dales for a run tomorrow! Happy to potter around on trails this weekend instead.

Apart from this weekend, I'm looking for someone to run with in the Dales/Lakes etc in the future...fell/trail, just want to get out with some company occasionally as I always run alone - would be nice to car share/have company/motivate each other/drink tea or beer with afterwards with someone else for once . Unfortunately none of my friends run on anything other than roads

If you want running companions in a given area then it might be worth starting a new thread in the 'Training' section, along the lines of the 'Care To Join Me' threads. Just head it up with something self-explanatory such as "Dalby Forest - Care to join me?" and see if you get any takers. There are forumites based in East Yorks and up on the NY Moors who might be interested in coming out for a run.
Alternatively, you can chip in on an existing thread and go along on someone else's run. The only warning is that it's worth finding out the pace of the people you're meeting up with!

    Miss K M,

I've never run around Dalby, only ever cycled. The Purple Mountain cafe is great for tea and cakes afterwards but the entry fee for cars into Dalby is excessive in my view. Just one note of caution, the MTB routes are all signed but they are one way only and some of them are very fast, its not worth trying to use them to run on; it would be like driving the wrong way down the M6.
Its Mon today so probably a waste of a reply but you never know. Wher have you been running in the Lakes?
