    Forerunner 305-export tcx file

First of all I'm not really a techie, but for a while I've been hacking about the hills with my Garmin Forerunner 305 checking out distance/elevation etc but more recently I wondered if there is a way of sending the GPS cordinates to Tracklogs or google Earth as the mapping data with the Forerunner is Cr*p. I seem to be able to 'export' it as a 'tcx' file, but then can't seem to do anything with it and either of the 2 programmes above don't appear to recognise it.

I've scoured the handbook, but no joy on that front.

    Anyone any ideas?

    yours sincerely,

    luddite Matt

    You could get sporttracks.
    http://www.zonefivesoftware.com/SportTracks/
Which will import directly from the 305. As well as being a good program for keeping track of your runs it will also export a track directly to Google earth.

    Thats a fantastic help!

I can transpose the tcx file into a much more user friendly gpx file which works in Google Earth and Tracklogs.

I can now run around with the 305 to my hearts content and see where I've really been!

    Thanks 'overthecrowroad'

I paid about the same 2 years ago - I'm pretty sure that its been superseeded by the 405, though I remember quite a few saying that its not as good as the 305 - only thing with it is I do a bit of triathlon and the like and its apparently not very waterproof - but then again this is a fell running site!

I too keep meaning to get the bike cadence things and handlebar mount as I don't find it that comfortable on the bike and also more likely to smash it my wrist.

Good piece of kit though, especialy now I can use proper maps .....

does it actually help you pinpoint your position if you were say in clag and not sure of exact position etc

It don't think it will tell you where you are (could be wrong, might show long/lat) but you can you the take me back function to guide you back to where you started, I'm just starting to use the courses function to follow race routes it's excellent, used it for a bit of the skyline route yesterday and am using it for Grindleford tomorrow.

Don't know if this is of any help but http://www.gpsies.com/createTrack.do is a great site for importing and exporting to a vast array of formats including native Garmin.

Also http://wtp2.appspot.com/wheresthepath.htm allows importing files and comparing routes with OS Survey side by side with Google satellite and other user defined views.
