Nothing in "Strider" to say runners aren't allowed in the Wensleydale Wander. If you find a way to get to Leyburn from Leeds by public transport for the 9am start, please let us know. I was assuming that would not be possible - would be very glad to be proved wrong.

It's organised by the Rotary Club. Probably best to ask Barrie here:

Otherwise, there's a danger that you could pitch up at a checkpoint 45 mins or more before the marshalls do.

It's a lovely area around Penhill. I've got a house that way though haven't been able to live in it for 20 years now.

Runners welcome on 22 mile route (have entered and been accepted as such).

Sounds good. Would love to be there, but I've been invited to a 21st birthday party in Lichfield! Hope they play some T Rex and Rolling Stones for me.

Yup, definately have a runners category in the Wensleydale Wander, there's a category for runners to mark on the appliation form. Although non-competitive, results are published on the Rotary Club website, fastest time last year for long route (there's a 12 mile route as well) was just over 3 hours.
A few of us are using this as a training run for the Swaledale Marathon. Hope to see you there. Dek

Well, I've tried - it's possible to get to Northallerton by train early enough and then take the 156 bus from Bedale at 8.00am to Leyburn by 8.30am, but the missing bit is Northallerton to Bedale, there is a service (73) but it starts too late on Saturdays to make the link. This bit of the journey would normally take 22 minutes so maybe if there's a taxi... however getting back might be difficult (I'm not fast!) and I'd miss Chris's Marathon des Sables welcome home party so next year I'll plan better and stay the night before.

    Have a good run everyone!
