Ovenden Fell Race

It is with deep regret that I have had to cancel the Ovenden fell race (Sat 9th Jan).
Some of the surrounding minor roads are treacherous and the carparks at the reservoir and at the pub are coated in ice or packed snow. There is simply nowhere to park cars. The weather forecast doesn't look much like it's going to improve.

I have been on the phone since I made the decision, letting runners, club representatives and webmasters and the local 'paper know the decision. I would be grateful if all who read this bullitin could get on the phone and let as many people as possible who might have intended travelling to the race know the situation.

The FRA calendar is fairly tightly packed with fixtures these days so it will be difficult - also, The Ovenden wouldn't be half the race it is if the weather was nice!

You may be interested to see what me and Chris got up to today because of our enforced day off from organising races. We went to the Summit Inn and TRIED! to recci the White Holme Circular, It was pretty hopeless with thigh deep snow and sheet ice on the Pennine Way.

Its comforting to know someone else followed one of those strange creatures walking with two feet and two hands leaving tracks in the snow.

As i followed the one going up sail pass I with ad-libbed the odd knee.

It is a cracking race this one. I did it on my 50th birthday a couple of year ago. Unfortunately can't make it this time.
Don't forget what Allan says, no kit,no run !! can get very bleak up on the moors

Never done this one before but looking forward to it - as long as the weather holds. Can anyone post the route/checkpoints/map?
