Right folks, it's nearly race day. The forecast is currently all over the place - depending on which forecast you look at it may be sunny, it may rain, Friday may have snow, it may not. Helpful  I will keep you posted if there is any risk of cancellation - the problem will be if snow makes the roads impassable or parking impossible. Cold is not a barrier in itself, and the forecasts do seem to agree that it will be cold. So...

    BRING YOUR KIT!!

Correct Map, Compass, Whistle, Hat, Gloves and emergency food.

Full body cover: Your top must be waterproof and windproof - not pertex. Your trousers may be windproof only (ie not waterproof) if you wish, however this is not advised if the conditions are poor.

There will be kit checks. I will also call out some random numbers on the start line. If you are found not to have the correct kit you will be embarrassed and we will start the race without you while you go and get the correct kit/drive home with your tail between your legs.

Please also use your common sense. I do not expect to see anyone on the start line in only their club vest and short shorts. An extra layer under your club vest is expected, and may be mandatory if the weather is particularly poor.

It will also be icy. Expect it to be icy, watch where you put your feet, and if you're not comfortable with the ice, then don't run. There are plenty of opportunities to run on the grass/moor along the edges of paths if you don't like the look of a particular stretch of path. This is a winter event and has been run in snow and ice before. You're not letting anyone down if you don't run, you just have to make the call about the risks you're prepared to take yourself.

Officialdom over. Bring along your readies for kit from reasonably priced kit supplier, and of course beer from the bar (open at the end of the race only for obvious reasons ). And of course enjoy your well earned soup, bread and cake too. And try and have fun!

JBF, The FRA guidelines allow pertex (they call it 'windproof').

Are you saying that you're definitely after waterproof? I know it says 'waterproof' on the CVFR page but is that new for this year?

It's not a problem; just clarifying the requirement. I don't want to be lugging a waterproof round if i am allowed a windproof instead.

I hope you're not after waterproof bottoms as well?

Everybody else; don't go chipping in, just let JBF answer please!

    Re: Wadsworth Trog

Original post edited for what is hopefully clarity. I'm happy to field further queries by PM rather than have prolonged kit debate, though AndyA was right to point out I didn't have it clearly enough defined and needed to fix it. I should have known better than to mention pertex...

It goes without saying that kit requirements are minimum requirements - if you feel you need your tent and sleeping bag to feel safe, then bring them

Hmmm...just arrived down in Hebden Bridge from Edinburgh (with all the right kit) and hoping to avoid a re-run (or not as the case may be) of 2007 when my wife called me in Hebden Bridge about 10pm on the Friday night to say some guy had just called to tell her the race had been cancelled. The only footprint I made that weekend was my carbon footprint. At least there is a Plan B if we can't run and that is a rare chance to see my beloved QPR in the flesh at Blackburn disporting the talents which are bound to make them favourites to win the Championship next season.

In the meantime off to The Fox & Goose to calm my nerves !!!

As much as I love the snow, I hope that it holds off until Sat evening as I will be travelling up early Sat morning from Watford and
could do with out any dramas of becoming stuck in the car.

Firstly though I have to be given the all clear to travel up depending if the boss has recovered sufficiently from her tooth extraction tomorrow to look after our baby - although I could say that the 'large real looking jelly baby' is my emergency rations !

I seem to recall from re-reading the earlier posts on the thread that watching QPR in 2007 wasn't much of a consolation either?! Let's hope the race is on this time!!

I fear the Fox & Goose may not do much to calm the nerves either - I hear it's not what it used to be and is up for sale, possible community buyout type thing. Stubbing Wharf may be a better bet. Not sure cloudy beer is ideal race prep!
