Leg 1 Recce Sat 7th July

Setting of at 9am from Keswick for a recce of leg 1, anyone who wants to join me more than welcome. Can arrange a lift back to Keswick from Threlkeld or can run back along old railway.

Well i don't think i will be needing the sun cream tomorrow, might take some waders instead for crossing the Caldew.:wink:

Thanks for the company Mark. A great trot out and the weather was brilliant - I even feel like I may have caught the sun! A couple of photo's below:







Here's my garmin track by the way. Ignore the straight line from Threlkeld to Keswick at the end as that was just caused by me accidentally restarting my watch for a second when you dropped me off. 14.79 miles and 5,920 feet of ascent. As you will see we made a big cock up in missing out Doddick Fell and descending via Scales Fell (until we hacked off the side above the pub). Haha, do you remember when I shouted out "are you sure we're going the right way". We went red and should have gone blue



Mind you even with that long loop out east, our slight detour when crossing the Caldew and our hanging about for a drink and a snack on the tops of Skiddaw and Blencathra, we still did it in 3:57 - on a 23 hour schedule I'd be allowed 3:16 to get to Blencathra (we were there in 3:12) and 3:49 to Threlkeld. Great fun Mark and thanks for giving me and Harry a lift into town at the end.

Yes it was a fantastic day out on the fells Stolly and it was great to meet yourself and Harry. We were very lucky with the weather to giving us some excellent views of the fells which your photos show. Considering the route we took down of Blencathra i think we did ok time wise, but on the next recce will make sure not to over shoot the path down Doddick fell
