OK, so now used the Forerunner 410 in anger for the first time. What a superlative bit of kit. As a watch it feels no bigger then the casio sportswatch I normally wear. At a race, setting it up to go is simplicity itself. When you get home, just plop it next to the PC, go and make a cup of tea, come back, open Garmin Connect and there it is! Map, pace, elevation and heart rate plus splits and probably loads more if I ferret around a bit!
I really, really wish something was around like this back when I kept a full written daily training/racing log! (15-20 years ago now!)

Absolute bargain now its discounted against the 610. Get one now whilst stocks last!

I treated myself to a new 310XT from Amazon last week and agree that the tracking/upload process is amazing compared to doing things manually. I'm also really impressed with the 310. It's my first sport-orientated GPS and is way more advanced than anything I have used in the past. I've only done a couple of short runs with it, but I'm going to be taking it out for something a bit longer this weekend to see what it is like in forested areas.

Hi mate, sorry not replied before now. Yes it's 1:25000 and again yes it came on a micro SD. We were a bit dubious about ordering it but it's been perfect, the eTrex recognises it as a Garmin product. If I remember correctly it cost about £50 which is a bargain compared to the price of full UK mapping in this country.

I also bought a 310xt in Jan and I'm equally pleased with it. Having got to know my way around Garmin Connect a little better, I'm really impressed with how customisable it is and I particularly like the report generation feature with the option to output as a CSV file. It makes keeping a detailed diary and absolute doddle. In terms of the device I have had no problems with it apart from a little condensation under the screen on a cold day when I was sweating a lot - not sure if this is anything to worry about in the long term?? I find if i leave it on the windowsill before a run it has picked up the satellites by the time i've got my trainers on. Nice!

This seems to be fairly common and the answer from Garmin about why it happens is because the device is not sealed in a controlled environment. So to that end, there is normal air inside the watch and changes in temp and pressure can cause the brief bit of 'misting' across the screen. I have suffered from this several times but it always clears itself up quickly.

Sadly, I've jsut found a bug in the latest available firmware of my 310XT in the waypoint edit section. What do you reckon the chances of a fix from Garmin are?

As there seems like plenty of folk on here who know their stuff Id like to ask about the forerunner 110 as I dont think anyone has mentioned it yet. I need to upgrade my old Polar HRM and wanted something with aGPS feature to log my runs and rides (addicted to Strava Im afraid!)
All I need it to do is display my HR as I run and record the data for uploading, have a splits function on the watch, record my route for uploading. From the myriad of information on the Garmin site I think the 110 does these things. Anyone any experience of one? What are the advantages of the 310 and 410?

I'm looking at the 410 seen as its on offer. Got a week til payday to make my mind up. Seems like a good choice and not much more expensive than the 110

Absolutely. Can't think why anyone would buy a 110 now.

Just thought I'd mention - I bought a Forerunner 305 several years ago and Im now on my 3rd one and have only paid for 1 initial payment. Ive called Garmin when the screen misted up and the battery life got so that it kept switching itself off - and they've replaced it for free - twice.
