    Mucus

I'm starting to get a bit fitter. I run about 3 or 4 times a week, anywhere between 3 and 10 miles.
I try and do more than 20 miles each week. I normally try and push it a bit.

Pushing it, I do seem to produce a lot of 'lung butter' which requires lots of little coughs and swallows to clear (I don't like spitting).
This is hard to do whilst breathing so hard, I often gag a bit.
    (stop sniggering at the back).

The situation does not seem to be getting any better. Constantly going out, trying hard, and making lots of mucus each time.

What's going on? Do some people just do this? Will it get better if I carry on upping mileage and speed - take things to the next level of fitness?
Could there be something in my diet? I seem to recall that dairy can promote this, I do eat a lot of cheese (but little milk, yoghurt or butter).

I've been on races where I've had people behind me who sounded like Bob Fleming, I don't want to be that person.
